Can't convert Session Guitarist tracks to audio or WAV files

I can’t convert Session Guitarist midi tracks to audio track” in my DAW (RealBand from PG Music).

I foolishly clicked “update all” In Native Access and all the NI programs updated to Kontakt 8 specs and I was using Kontak 7 so I kept getting error messages saying my version of Kontakt was too old.

So, I downloaded the free Kontakt 8 Player. All seemed OK until I tried to convert Session Guitarist midi tracks to audio track or WAV files. I just get a blank track where the audio should be.

Any assistance or advice would be appreciated.

You can revert to old version of software apps and libraries by uninstalling them and then download the old version from Account downloads and then install manually and then not update..

If I can play and hear the. Session Guitarist tracks I don't understand why can't I convert them to audio.

If I've downloaded the Kontakt 8 Player and updated all the Kontakt instruments why would there be a compatibility problem?

Please help; I use the Session Guitarists a lot in my work.

If suggestions given or help offered here is not of use then it will be difficult to reproduce or look into an issue for other people if they do not have or use the DAW…

You could consider using the 'RealBand from PG Music' DAW support system…

Help from this forum is what I need because the problem only occurs with Session Guitarist instruments and only since I clicked "update all" in Native Access".

There's clearly a misunderstanding here. Kontakt doesn't typically do conversions of MIDI tracks to Audio. That falls into the domain of whatever DAW you're using. In most cases you add an instance of the Kontakt plugin into your DAW and create your MIDI track there. Once you're happy with it you bouce it to an audio track. In Kontakt you can generally play the instrument in real time, but it doesn't provide any recording capabilities for what you played. That's why you create such a track in a DAW then convert it.

It's been many, many years since I worked with Real Band and for the most part I was just using their pre-prepared loops, not converting from an outside source. I'm sure it's changed considerably but what I remember of it, it really wasn't designed to be a DAW, but more of a learning/teaching tool. I would convert many of my sessions from Real Band into tracks, but I had to import them into my previous DAW (Sonar) to do it.

You're probably better off going to a PG Music forum and asking your questions because if Kontakt is allowing you to play the instrument in a live session standalone, that's the way it works for everyone and Kontakt is doing it's job. What's falling apart is how you have to import and work with Kontakt in the Real Band environment.

Agreed with @DunedinDragon

The DAW creates the audio file - not the plugin.

For the record - all of the above works just fine (and/all Session series guitars) here in Studio One. Can create audio from any of them - on demand everytime. Nothing wrong with the plugins that I can see.

Thanks everyone. I uninstalled all my Session Guitarists, and reinstalled earlier versions to work with Kontakt 7, which I also uninstalled and reinstalled. Hours later, everything seems to be working ok.

Notwithstanding the comments that the DAW is what handles the midi to audio conversion, I still don't understand why the tracks created with updated Session Guitarists, in the current version of Kontakt 8 Player, could not be converted to audio, when every other synth, including other NI instruments, could.

Have you even confirmed with the vendor of Real Band - if they actually fully support Kontakt 8.6.1? Or these (now just two week old) updates to the Session series?

Just because a plugin loads in a DAW - does not necessarily mean that every function that it is capable of - will actually work in that DAW.

Every process and procedure would need to be tested end to end - by the vendor of Real Band, NI and the makers of the Session series before ALL possible issues could be eliminated.

Bit of a muddle here I think. The nomenclature can be confusing.

This is what happens.

You feed MIDI (and host automation) messages into Kontakt from your keyboard, sequencer, controller or whatever, and Kontakt generates the music according to these instructions.

It spits out the results as a sequence of numbers - an audio track - and you or your DAW can then (a) feed them into a soundcard so you can hear the music, and/or (b) store the numbers in an audio file (.wav or whatever) for later use.

If (a) is happening but not (b), it has nothing to do with Kontakt or instrument updates, but some problem (connections etc?) with this fundamental function of your DAW, or whatever recording arrangements you have set up.
