I just bought a Maschine MK3, but I know someone who uses a Maschine MK2, and he has a couple of really nice features in his workflow that I assumed would still be possible on the newer model. It’s frustrating that I can’t seem to do them on the MK3.
Select + Play Behavior
On the MK2, holding SELECT
and tapping a pad would both select and play the sound. This makes it quick to audition and change focus without leaving Step Mode. On the MK3, holding SELECT
mutes pad velocity so no sound is triggered, which slows down the workflow when I want to hear what I’m selecting.
I want all this because, If I use PAD Mode it keeps me locked in pad mode, instead of going back into step mode automatically like was possible on the maschine mk2.
Note Repeat “Solo” Effect
On the MK2 (especially with some factory kits), holding Note Repeat on a pad — for example, a snare — would effectively mute the other sounds, making clean rolls easy and clean. On the MK3, other pads keep playing unless I manually set up choke groups, but that permanently removes the ability to layer those sounds in normal playing.
Feature Requests:
- Add a preference toggle for “Select Pads Audition” so users can choose between MK2-style Select+Play and MK3’s current silent Select.
- Add an option for “Note Repeat temporarily solos the selected pad” so clean rolls can be performed without permanent choke groups or pressing Solo manually.
These small changes would restore some of the immediacy and live performance feel from the MK2 while keeping all the benefits of the MK3 hardware. Are there any plans to add these options back?
If I am missing something and there are solutions for this on the maschine mk3, please let me know.
