Hi guys,

So I finally decided to upgrade the software and computer since 2020, this is when I 1st purchased the S2 mk3, which came with TP2.
I’ve upgraded from iPad to iMac Air and downloaded TP4.
Here’s the issue, TP4 is not recognising the S2, so I’m unable to do any firmware updates etc. I also noticed that my product wasn’t showing as registered, which I’ve done now. Since doing this TP3 is now showing as downloadable. If I’d know this I’d of purchased that instead of TP4!

Anyway what could be the reason for my iMac not connecting to my S2?

Your help would be much appreciated as my brain is starting to boil literally!

Ps the system is sequoia 15.5

S2 Mk3 should have come with TP3 from the start. Especially in 2020.

S2 Mk3 is compatible with Traktor Pro 4. You have granted TP4 access to microphones in system settings. Is your S2 recognized as audio interface in system settings? Is it listed in system profiler as USB device? Does it light up when connected?

How do you connect your S2? Direct with a USB-C to USB-B cable? Or do you use any adapters, hubs or docking stations? These can often cause issues?

What do you mean with iMac Air? iMac or MacBook Air?

Firmware upgrades require a separate tool and aren‘t done in Traktor. https://www.native-instruments.com/en/support/downloads/drivers-other-files/

Are you sure it is a MK3? If it is a Mk1 it won‘t work on Seqouia!

As you used an iPad till now: Which USB port on the S2 are you using? The flat one labelled iOS? Or the more rectangular shaped orange one labelled USB?

As I don‘t own a S2 myself I maybe wrong but the orange port shouldn‘t be able to charge your MacBook at all. On computers the S2 Mk3 works bus powered but you have to use the orange rectangular USB with an appropriate cable.

Your Mac Air is that Apple Silicon ?

Anyway what could be the reason for my iMac not connecting to my S2?

That TRAKTOR KONTROL S2 is that MK1 , MK2 or MK3 ? I am not sure if the MK1 is compatible with Apple Silicon (?) Compatibility of Native Instruments Products on macOS

the S2 lights up and then goes out. I’m using a usb that connects to my MacBook Air. This I know works as it charges the battery when plugged in.
I used to use an iPad which worked with traktor 2. No idea why it didn’t come with TP3.
I shall check the system setting you mention.

Traktor Pro never worked on iPads. That was a different app called Traktor DJ 2. Had only a limited feature set and was once intended as new core for a future Traktor Pro. But instead Traktor DJ was discontinued and NI put its effort again in the „old“ Traktor Pro code. Traktor DJ was free. Your S2 came with a license for Traktor Pro 3. But that is only available on Windows and macOS.

You are using an USB? Docking Station? Which one? USB is a bit complicated these days. A cable that charges a device is not guaranteed to enable data transfer.
Have you tried a direct connection between your MacBook and S2? Best is a direct USB-C to USB-B cable. I use some from DJ Techtools with some of my Native Instruments gear. Never had issues with them.

    Should it show up here?

Yes, should show up there, usually opening Traktor Pro first time should trigger a dialog asking for permission. But I expect you have an issue with your USB connection. Even without access to microphones (and audio interfaces) your S2 should stay lit up and work as controller while Traktor is open on your Mac.

traktor dj yes. I only had an iPad so like you say I was unable to download the Pro versions.
the cable I use is a USB to usb c, this works as I can see the power from the S2 charges the MacBook. These are directly connected to each other.

I’ve had a look on the back of the S2 and I was using the iPad output!!! Not suprised it isn’t working. I’m going to purchase a usb B to C and see if that sorts it!

I will update you when I try it.

Thanks for your help! Much appreciated :-)
