Traktor 4.2.0 - Manually setting Beatgrid Issue

I'm probably one of the few who manually set beat grids. I've always done it, zoom in and get the spot I want on each track, it's been exactly the same as far back as I can remember … till the 4.2.0 update!

It seems to be a simple change, but is a frustrating one.

Essentially when you have SNAP enabled, when you set the beatgrid marker it does not go where your playhead is, it "snaps" to where it thinks it should be. If you turn off SNAP, it will apply the beatgrid marker to where the playhead is.

You might think whatever, leave SNAP off … but after setting up my beatgrid I then setup my Load marker, then my Fade-In as my 32/64 from drop or vocals then Cue3 as my drop/vocal etc … and I do these while the track is playing and I'm beat-jumping through, so I want SNAP to be on so they are placed on beat and not in random locations.

1 - 4.2.0 with snap on.PNG

Example … 2 tracks above, loaded, analysed only with "Special - BPM (Automatic) & Gain" as I use Mixed In Key before bringing them into Traktor, and I do not have "Set Beatgrid" ticked.

2 - 4.2.0 with snap on.PNG

On each track I have my playhead where I want to set the Gridmarker, and it does not go where I want it to be.

3 - 4.2.0 with snap off.PNG

Delete the previous wrong gridmarker, turn off SNAP, and now set gridmarker again …

4 - 4.2.0 with snap off.PNG

And as you can see when I move the track slightly it is where I wanted it to be.

The result with SNAP off is how every other version of Traktor has worked up till now with SNAP on as well.

I also note that this change is in both the Mac and Windows versions of 4.2.0.

Can someone please look into this as it is a real workflow problem.

Thank-you.

SNAP to GRID (or transient, if no grid is set) is a 'bugfix', as noted in the update notes to 4.2.0.

    Quote:

FIXED Grid Markers not following Snap mode
The Grid Markers now follow Snap mode like regular cue points, enabling accurate setting of a new Grid Marker on the underlying grid.

    My Current Version: 4.2.0 34

I've noticed the same issue during the last 3 weeks when I was gridding all my stuff a new traktor collection.

Iam not using auto grid marker when analysing. So grid marker has to be set manually. On some tunes, first beat grid marker puts himself somewhere else.

As you already mentioned, Snap off does the trick.

But its feels like its a new bug related to flexible beatgrids.

    Little Workaround:

    → Set a grid marker

→ grid marker is set somewhere else.

→ instant set a second one → this time, grid marker should be a the correct position

→ delete first created grid marker by moving to the section & delete it. Only second & correct grid marker is left

→ bpm may change (sometimes in my case about 0,01 to 0,1bpm → just correct it

→ set your analyse lock at the end

Iam using it since I've figured it out.

BUT … there is NO GRID for it to snap to, I am in the process of SETTING THE GRID for the first time. I do not use the Set Beatgrid when I analyse my tracks.

Infact, this same thing happens to tracks that have NOT been analysed!

They may have fixed one bug but BROKEN the setting of the grid.

Can I please submit this as a bug that needs fixing?

When no grid is set and SNAP is active, hotcues and gridmarkers snap to the closest transient. Automatic setting of grid via analysis works just like before. Only the manual setting of gridmarkers now also uses SNAP like hotcues do. If you deactivate SNAP you can manually set gridmarkers just like before.

I already mentioned to NI staff that this 'bugfix' was unnecessary. Nothing else i can do.

You can submit anything you think is a bug.

@Martiniix_NI : Do you have any more information that you can share about this issue?

Thanks for your input @Sûlherokhh , as I mentioned above my workflow has been the same for many years and I can beatgrid and set markers on the fly at gigs if needed as this process is so quick … well it was until this update!

It's been many years since I've genuinely needed to submit a bug, and it was certainly back in the day of the old forum … what is the process now?

    Hey!

Interesting, I will escalate it and we will have a look.

Regardless of whether SNAP is switched on or off, if no beatgrid is set and I want to set a grid marker to the current beatmarker position, the marker should be able to be set at the current position without any detours.. When I wanna set the beat marker, sometimes traktor creates a grid marker at the end of the tune which is not even near the closest transient in my opinion..

Either I let it just stay right there or I have to create a second grid marker (this one is on the correct position then..) and delete the first one which is a max pain in the first place.

    That's not my experience.

When i deactivate SNAP, i can set a gridmarker anywhere i like, just like before. I do this regularly, like once every ten new tracks i pre-listen and prep both with an accurate grid as well as a couple of hotcues (for which i reeingage SNAP). It's an extra step i could have done without, but it works like before. I even got used to it a bit, muscle memory and all, since the couple of weeks the update is out.
