DJM-S11 + 2 Rane Twelve MKII + Traktor

Many disappointments with Native Instruments after, and i'm currently in the painful process of switching gear and switching to Serato.

With traktor I normally play with the clubs gear in HID: (DJM mixer + CDJs).

for my Serato home setup, i've just got a DJM-S11 + 2 Rane Twelve MKII turntables.

I'm looking into the possibility of using this gear with serato too.

Anyone done it before?

I know the S11 can be mapped to it.

My problem is with the Rane Twelves. I understand that for Trakor I gotta use them in DVS with RCAs connected.

But if I connect the RCAs to the S11.. then I gotta switch the S11 to LINE instead of USB, so now i can't use the S11 sound card for Traktor.

So my guess is I would have to use an external sound card for it, right?

kind of defeats the purpose of HID I guess..

Any thoughts?

Don't have a DJM-S11, never used one. But usually with mixers having an integrated DVS interface it is totally correct to set them to USB. This is valid especially if you use something like Rane Twelves. As I understand that device it never sends proper music via RCA just the timecode signal - it doesn't act as audio interface. It emulates the behaviour of a classic turntable with timcode vinyls. If you set your S11 channel strips to LINE you should hear the timecode signal from your Twelves and no music.

You have to configure the Line inputs in Traktor settings as you deck inputs, set the Twelves to Traktor DVS and your audio should come from Traktor via USB to your S11. If found a YouTube video from DJ Carlo mixing with S11 and Traktor timecode vinyls. Both channels are set to USB A there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CLjb5JoDYM

@maniacintosh81 has already perfectly described how to use the DJM-S11 and his sound card 👍️

I have both: The S11 and the Rane Twelve MKII. First, the mixer: It's a great tool. Everything can be mapped easily on the mixer itself, but it stops at the screen. Therefore, you're always have at a disadvantage compared to using it with Serato. Furthermore, various functions aren't enabled on the screen without Serato, and limitations are to be expected (no 4 Channel Mixing, etc.).

I only kept the Rane Twelves MKII because I can use them for teaching students. They can basically be used with any DJ software. But even here, you have certain limitations with Traktor. The emulated timecode is faulty and, in my opinion, leads to the playhead skipping bug, which is really annoying (Filed as "Playhead Skipping Bug" TP-17638).

All in all: Yes, you can use both with Traktor, but you won't get the most out of it. If you can accept these compromises, it's certainly fine. But if you're considering switching completely to Serato anyway, it doesn't make much sense to use this combo with Traktor in my opinion. The advantages clearly lie with Serato. The mixer is 100% designed for it, and unfortunately, the Twelves are too. HID is a huge advantage over timecode.
