Mac mine M4 16 or 24 RAM for combo with traktor
Hello hello.
After a looong time i'm finally ready to give my maschine another go.
My current macbook ai with 8 gig is not going to do it together with traktor 4 Running.
Wondering if the nex mac mine M4 with 16 gig would be enough or do i need to get the 24 RAM version?
Thank you for your kind reply

Traktor doesent need that much ram, so it depends on what you do in Maschine. What eats lots of RAM are big multisample instruments, aka Kontakt Lib Instruments. One instance of, for example STRADIVARI VIOLIN will take about 5GB of RAM:
So, running that on a 8GB MB Air totally stalls the laptop.
So, if you plan to use 10x of this sort of orchestral instrument, then 24GB won't be enought, but most producers dont aim for high realism orchestral productions, so for the average Joe 24GB is more than enought.
I generally use 3 or 4 big Kontakt instruments max, generally not the orchestral stuff, then another 5 or 6 normal instruments, Synths, samples, tons of audio tracks, etc… and I can run Ableton + Maschine + Serato + browser open on just 16GB on a Mac mini M2 Pro.
You gotta have a rough idea of what you want to do to buy the right amount of ram, if you're more into synths than sampled instruments, even 8GB can be fine for example.

in theory your M4 should be fine… but many likely dont own a m4, this is evidenced by no one responding, i own the m1 mac mini 16gb
so your own feedback & experience would help others in their decision to looking toward an upgrade… im one who is likely to upgrade once i see enough compatibility signs
so be sure to provide feedback on your experience

If you’re planning to use Traktor alongside other performance-heavy apps, going with 24GB is the safer bet—especially for smoother multitasking. I've seen RAM usage spike unpredictably during live sets, and having that headroom really helps avoid audio glitches. On my setup, trimming background processes and using a lightweight memory cleaner also made a difference.
