How to get the software without a license transfer from the seller

Dear Reader,

If people buying a Maschine MK2 or MK3 or Studio second hand and the seller can't give them a license key how do they get the software to let the Maschines work then? Its a hypothetic question now because i see a lot of stuff like Maschines mk2 & mk3 & Maschine Studio sellings on the second hand (2dehands called) in Belgium they say "Without a license" or many of those sellers DO NOT TELL even you need the license to get the software. I asking because i wanna people help they bought it (Maschine Studio or others) and now got stuck because they don't have the license. Can you buy a license if you bought the hardware second hand and the seller don't have, can't (or don't want who knows) transfer the license? Please understand that my english is kinde bad so try to use "simple" susgestions, thank you. 95% of those sellers here DO NOT TELL the buyers they need a license for the software so is there a way they can buy it somehow so they don't need the license from the sellers and i can help them to get the Maschines to work? Thank you for the help. I got the Maschine Studio with all the licenses i need for but it hurt to see people buying it second hand and left behind with the troubles getting the software without the license. Who can help here? THank you very much.

Usually there are two solutions:

1.) Contact support with a proof of purchase and a picture of the hardware serial on the device. In most cases support can register the device in your Native ID then and you get the software licenses originally shipped with that device. (Sometimes even a never version.)

2.) You can buy a full license of Maschine 3 software from NI webshop for 99€. This will only work for Maschine Mk3, Maschine Mikro Mk3, Maschine Studio and Maschine Jam as Mk1 and Mk2 aren't compatible with Maschine 3 software.

But if the seller is rightful owner and used his hardware himself it should be almost always be possible to create a license transfer ID for the hardware. Things are different if you buy from a pawn shop or second hand shop though.

You can buy a licence for Maschine 3 directly from NI for £89 from here - https://www.native-instruments.com/en/pricing/maschine-3/

That works for the Studio/MK3/Jam, but for older hardware like the MK2 the purchaser would need to contact NI support to see if there's anything they can do to help with a MK2 licence.

Thank you very much maniacintosh81 for this clear and great help. I just asked because i met a guy on the 2dehands website that bought a Maschine Studio like mine, i have all keys/licenses, but he was left with…. NOTHING and he was sad and even mad the seller don't told him bout the license for the software so i try to helped him like you guys helped me getting through this all so again thank you very much. To be sure , if they just buy the Machine 3 software from NI website they can start to using the Maschine? Greetings and thank you.

… ow i forgot this.. what if the seller owns the license and sold the Maschine but not want to transfer the license or "saying" hes got not one what then? Isn't that a problem when the buyer from the second hand Maschine buys the Maschine software and what about registration then? Will it say the seller looses the licenses? (Would be a great punnishment if you ask me because they lied to the seller) Sorry if that sounds mean but some people here on the second hand webside do stupid cruel things to others just to sell the stuff.

For the aforementioned compatible models, Maschine 3 software is enough to use them. In facts, to be precise, Hardwares can be used even without Maschine software to control other softwares, in MIDI mode. The experience will of course be different.

About “punishment”, there is none. At the point that NI have a kind of “generous” politic about the software: both buyer and seller will have (and keep) that software in their accounts.

This is something that buyers can say to the sellers, in case they are in contact. It’s practically useless to refuse to do the License Transfer, since the software will remain in the account, while the hardware…well… if they sell it, they won’t have it anyway.

Of course better to ask for confirmation to NI Support, so the seller will be aware of this.

In any case… the best advice to give (if somebody asks for questions beforehand of course) is to buy directly from owners and not on second hand shops, in order to be in contact with them and not risking that the shop will answer “we don’t know anything about it and we can’t do anything”.

And if someone is in that situation anyway, as others have answered you, contacting Support could have them helping solving the situation by registering the HW themselves to the new owner (even if I heard some cases where this has been refused, usually the thing will be managed by support)
