MY CONSOLE WILL NOT CONNECT

i have just brought a second hand traktor kontrol s3 console, and when i plug it in to my laptop i get nothing, no lights, absolutely nothing its as if i havent even plugged it in.

i thought maybe my traktor pro 3 program needed to be upgraded so i brought pro 4… still nothing. the program works with my older S2 console.

im at my wits end i have been speaking to djs all day and trying various things, ive done everything that is on the native instruements website and now im trying to email them but cant find the email address but came across this page instead.

can anyone help me???

What mykejb wrote in the above , if attaching a PSU , trying another cable and maybe another USB port / or another computer does not help then the unit is most likely defect. If you need contact to N.I. hardware support then that is done through the web interface : N.I. Hardware Support

Have you tried a different USB cable? That's a good starting point for a completely dead-looking unit. Are you using a power supply or relying on the computer to bus-power the unit?

The other possibility is that the unit is in fact dead. Do you get any lights when you plug in the power supply without the computer connected?

Yes I have tried all of the above options, there are no lights or anything, when I plug in my old S2 console using the same usb and power cable it goes fine, lights come on immediately etc.

So yes it is looking like it's the console, are there any secret livk buttons or anything like that of traktor kontrol s3 consoles that might be causing it to be frozen/inactive?

Since this is windows PC. Did you ensure to close ay othe rmidi capable application? Unlike on macOS, there is no possibility to share one controller port across multiple application. Also, try a different computer you have access to.

Additionaly the S2 is not a console it is only the controller.

I'm not really understanding as theres computer terms I dont understand but the program that came with the traktor controller has been transferred to me, so it is no longer on the previous owners pc. I have also tried a different computer, different cables, everything I try I test my S2 as well as the new s3... only the s3 wont action... no lights absolutely nothing happens at all.. which makes me think it is a fault in the hardware, which is confusing for the previous owner as it was working fine when he had it.

I would thinknif itcwas a software issue that the controller would stillmlight up when.plugged in

I have no way of knowing for sure if your unit is broken but I do know that storing a unit can break it as much as using it if storing it under the wrong conditions. E.g. storing electrical equipment too hot can dry up Aluminum electrolytic capacitors in electric equipment and make the device break when plugged in.

Quote 1 : But, storage temperature matters too! Cool temperatures will reduce liquid evaporation from the electrolytic capacitors and extend life. Cool temperatures and low humidity will also reduce corrosion of switch contacts. The ideal temperature is slightly above freezing with a low humidity.

Quote 2 : Oxidation isn’t the problem with electrolytic capacitors, evaporation is. Over time, volatile compounds in the electrolyte evaporate. As they do, the capacitor begins to degrade. Eventually, the capacitance drops to a point where it begins to affect the operation of the device. Heat accelerates the process, so turning the devices on periodically may actually make the problem worse. Tantalum capacitors use a solid electrolyte, so this isn’t a problem for tantalum caps, but for aluminum electrolytic caps, it is.

Piont is, since you are with Windows PC, make sure that only one instance of Traktor is opened and any other midi app is closed (such as Serato, VDJ etc)

If you connect just the power supply to the S3 you should see all the lights come on briefly with some Vegas-style animations then they'll go out until it connects to Traktor. Do you see that happen with a known good power supply. If you don't it looks like you have a genuinely dead unit. If you do see the lights then at least you know you have a partially working unit.

No lights at all... and yeah I know what you mean brights coming on briefly that's what happens when i plug in my old S2 unit... so i know what I'm looking for.. and yip it seems like my hardware is defective,

thanks for all the help, i took it into the shop and the whole unit was dead, it was a fault with the power so that was relief to know it wasnt something i was doing wrong, they replaced the whole unit with a new one so now im up and running…. but all my traktor 3 settings have reset to default and now i cant figure out how to actually get sound, the deck layout or anything so im back to the drawing board and trying to learn from scratch…
