need help to reinstal everything
Hi there,
Apple had to erase my computer. yeah.. bad things happened , I'm devastated and mad at myself because I lost 3 years of my work on Logic. Convinced all these years that I was saving my projetcs on an external hard drive, I was actually saving them on my computer! yes, I know… and no time machine's location.. blah blah .. Hopefully I've learned my lesson.
Anyway.. My ex installed ecerything from native on my computer and as I'm by myself now, I need to install everything again, but don't know where to start.
From Native Access, to the other Native Access (the black icon, I think it's the 2, hugh?)
Also all my plugins.. guys, I'm desperately lost. I need to do everything from the start.
Could someone help me with what step I should start with?
thank you so much

First of all, Native Access: yes, the “other” NA is the newest version, which you should use (and I’m saying that while I’m still using version 1), because otherwise you will not find ALL your products (they decided that even if version 2 was full of problems, they want to force us to use that and so the newest releases can be found only in version 2…)
What you should do: the things you can install from NI can be divided in 3 cathegories: programs, libraries and expansions. Luckily for you, the biggest ones to download and install are the libraries and you don’t HAVE to reinstall them. If they are already on your computer (or an external drive) you can use NA which has locate/relocate functions to point it at where the libraries are already installed.
For programs (which are not too many…Kontakt, Komplete, Maschine, Traktor and some others (like some synths)) you will have to reinstall them (after uninstalling previous installed version).
Same should be for expansions, although they said time ago they wanted to implement locate also for them (but I don’t think they already done it)

Depending on which OS you are, you can find some support articles explaining a little bit what to do:

Important stuff should always be saved on at least two separate locations. E.g. on your computer drive and also on an external drive or USB stick or what has become very much common place these days then have your backup copies on a sky/cloud drive.
I am sorry to learn about your data loss but you need to acquire at least the basic skills and knowledge about the computer and programs that you use so that you are sure that your data is backed up , at least the personal files such as your DAW work.
but don't know where to start.
Neither do I since you do not supply the basic information such as computer type (other than Mac) and exact OS version (important). But for now it ought to suffice to say that it would serve you best if you are using a fairly modern computer and a fairly modern OS (though I think that N.I. is not yet ready for Sequoia even though some are using it) , but you need to use at least Mac OS 12.
Also for installation distribution purposes then we need to know drive space available , what Komplete bundle or software that you need installed and depending on the size of it all then you might need an external drive to install at least Content libraries on. (Usually Mac users needs a fast external drive, like SSD , for content due to the lack of internal drive expansion).
Alas I know very little about Mac and such but this might help others here to be able to advice you better.

@LostInFoundation, PoorFellow, thank you for replying.🙏
yes ,my computer :
I really hope I can make it work with Sequoia.. I want to upgrade with a chip, but money is an issue right now, also I've been watching a lot of videos about which chip "M1, pro, M2, etc) would work the best with Logic.Yet it's still confusing to me.
I need to get back to some old demos but I only have audio tracks and I'd like to get the stems to re-work them by instrument and apparently only a computer with a chip can do that.
anyway, I started to download all Native library…through Native Access.
I guess I'll have to save everything on my external hard drive but I don't know how much space I'll need, it looks like a lot🤨
the one I have:
I Also had to download my Mic's plugin too 😐️. I have a UA townsend "Sphere" mic.
Oh well … After hours of crying last night, I try to tell myself that everything happens for a reason, and the only reason I found is that I was kinda lost artistically speaking, for a couple of years I detached myself from my previous work, that was very much more ‘me’…At a point that I was trying to kinda get myself closer from the music I was hearing on the billboard instead of cultivating my uniqueness. Now I need to get back to me.
I’m not 20 yo anymore so my uniqueness is the only thing that would make me stand out. It happened to Tori Amos, she was trying to please her record company by doing some dance music and it didn’t work until she came back to be her true self.
sorry for sharing… maybe too much.. I guess felt It that way.
Please don't hesitate to give me insight about your experience.. what chip you use if you're on Logic.. what external hard drive I should get to stock all this..or any of your experience in general.
Thanks

is LEAP for free?
Leap is part of Kontakt 8 and apparently then you can use You can use it also in Kontakt 8 Player version, but I don't know if there is any Leap expansions in the Player version of Kontakt 8. However then as the text in my present 'signature' says then Get the NI Holiday Gift 2024 (read the text on the page). (Only have the one Leap Expansion of your choice alone in cart at checkout when you use the code LEAP) I don't know for how long time the Holiday gift 2024 offer runs.

Hello all:
Although I have a Mac, I'm not an expert either.
But the good news is, you can probably get some really good help from your local Apple Store. Reach out to them and see if there is anybody who can help you install the first bits of your music software, and then to help you set up your backups.
Once you have installed a few things under the watchful eye of an Apple Genius, you can work on the rest by yourself. None of this is THAT hard once you've done it a couple times. And the same goes for setting up backups to happen automatically.
With respect to backups, I favor the "3-2-1" methodology. That is, 3 backups available at all times, on 2 different kinds of media, and with 1 of them kept offsite. But for now, YOU need to set something up that will never again allow you to be without a backup. As you're learning right now, it's just too much work to always have to rebuild everything from scratch.
And finally, you may want to start saving up for a new Mac. The MacBooks are now starting to get M4 chips, which is a very good thing.
M1 thru M4 are just the designations of Apple's own chips, designed by Apple. I forget who manufactures the Apple chips, but that doesn't usually matter much anyhow. The Apple chips consist of multiple CPU and GPU circuitry all on the same chip. These operate with less power needed, and so they also generate less heat. If your Intel Mac still works fine, then keep using it, and just start saving money for an Apple Silicon computer in a year or two. By then, there might be an M5 or M6 chip.
I hope this helps at least a little.

With respect to installation then if you have enough space on the internal system drive then you should keep the default locations for all the plugins and then set Content location and eventually also Download location to the external drive. As for external drive then within economy then you ought to get a drive with ample space that is attached to the fastest port type (I don't know what you have but ought to be Thunderbolt or USB 3.x ?) and drive type SSD with type depending on type of casing selected.
Then as wisely suggested by BIF then get some local off-line help for the rest.
