Will there be a version 2 update to Maschine+ or only a version 3 upgrade?

Hi all,

Firstly, i want to say that I understand all of the frustrations in this thread.

Part of this blame is on my shoulders, as i took lead of the Hardware Systems product management in October (Kontrol, Maschine, NKS), and i've been absent from these conversations as i had to adapt to a new role, and as you have seen with the NAMM announcements we have been expanding our partnerships in the music industry to work better with our NI ecosystem of products.

We have not forgotten about Maschine, nor Maschine+, and we constantly have active development on-going and it will be my focus to bring more of that knowledge sharing with you.

To answer this thread specifically, we are almost ready to release the next Maschine+ OS to beta, which includes the Maschine stability fixes we talked about for Maschine 2 (including the kernal update).

We also have a list of content products and plugins from the NI ecosystem that are currently being tested and will be released on Maschine+ soon.

Then we will move our focus onto Maschine 3 going forward (with a Maschine 3 release for Maschine +) as the major issues we know about for Maschine 2 will be resolved, at that point you can decide to remain on Maschine 2 if you wish.

I will be posting a 2025 outlook thread in the next week or so to give a bit more clarity on what we are working on on the Hardware Systems divsion, and will be more available to participate in the conversations going forward.

Feel free to post any additional questions or concerns you have about what i've outlined above.

Ok, I have to echo what I posted elsewhere. In regards to the new MPC NI partnership, making expansions work on their system before all of us dedicated Maschine Plus users. While others may praise this move, for me I'm simply pissed. I've been sticking with Maschine Plus in hopes for a major firmware update they keep saying is coming and instead we find out NI has been being unfaithful to us with Akai. Feels like a total stab in the back. Why not at least wait until you give much anticipated support for your current customers before making a move like this. If anything this may make me finally just jump ship to the world of MPC. Are we going to be getting the same treatment for the Plus as you did for the MPC?

I’ve never posted a comment before, but with true concern. I have read what Chris has stated.

But it has been promise after promise, I am concerned for the future of Maschine+ in general. It is my instrument. & I might typically dig crates for basslines & drum loops, but seeing Akai users getting all of these features while we sit here with absolutely nothing is crazy. I no doubt want to have fun beyond the crates, to use the same features that were just given to the MPC heads would be dope on the M+.

I own an MPC X SE, & the timestretch is garbage on it & it runs off of a chip that’s used in regular tablets. Koala Sampler stretches better than any MPC.

The M+ has so much potential, it’s either going to prevail or die one of the last true retro old-head style drum machines.

The Maschine+ destroys the MPC line, hardware & build-quality wise.

At this point, it’s what is done with the M+ hardware that determines the fate of the Maschine+.

This device needs the plugins & effects. Not expansion packs.

No expansion pack is saving the Maschine+ beyond this point. This is bad.

I think you’re right if you mean that they gave away one of the main USPs for Maschine / Maschine+ in return for some short-term gain in profits. The Maschine platform has / had to compete with MPC software, and Akai already has its collaboration with AIR. Other 3P vendors already create libraries for both platforms or Live, too, especially when It comes to sample-based instruments.

When it comes to full-sized DAWs there’s still a very long way to go before both are in the same league as Ableton with their Live software, the additional Suite collection, M4L platform and the Push 3 Controller (or stand-alone upgrade). After the recent update to the mobile Note software and the Move hardware integration, I think they really understand and showed how to build a solid and sustainable ecosystem.

Hopefully NI is ALLOWED to reinvest profits gained from this risky move into maintaining and developing its own Maschine platform. I can’t see what they had to do to regroup and reposition, but I’m sure this move didn’t benefit Maschine as a platform of choice for new customers. Especially because of the fact that plugin development and desktop integration are also neglected, and the ‘new’ Maschine software version 3 didn’t show any improvements in that space… yet.

If this move will bring profits, what they will think is “this is the direction to take”, not “let’s reinvest the profits in what we were doing before” 😔

Missing the fact that if what they were doing before started to stall in bringing profits is because they stalled in developing it, not because users are not interested in it anymore.

If you deliver, things will continue rolling. If you sit on the laurels, things (and profits) stall

I’ll take watered down play series instruments any day of the week for Maschine+.

The MPC Live II has only 2 GB of Ram & runs off a chip designed for mid-budget tablets & now runs play series instruments with animations for the touchscreen & everything else.

I’m backing out of this conversation.

Bottom-line. All that I want to see is Maschine+ get the same treatment, if not better than what Akai has.

Akai already has near 50 different plugin instruments/effects or whatnot, only to receive some more from Maschine’s own developers, more than they already have. While Maschine+ is more powerful, yet hasn’t seen any effects or plugins since launch.

I just want my Maschine+ to have the same play series, that’s it.

Instead of warmed up Play Series libraries, I would prefer to have Absynth on the M+. And some classic NI effects like Mod Pak (of which we already have Phasis), Crush Pak or Driver. And Replika as the delay equivalent to Raum.

But foremost, there should be fixes, improvements and finishing touches of existing features.

In the meantime, I‘m probably going to throw a considerable lump of cash towards Sweden. Those new Elektron boxes look mighty fun and sonically powerful.

Step probability? Check! Conditional triggers? Check! Euclidian sequencer? Check! Lots of synthesizing Machines? Check! Regular updates? Check! Support of legacy devices? Check!

I’m just waiting to see where this goes, and hopefully that akai-NI fellowship could maybe contribute some programming expertise back to NI to help them maybe get past some hurdles in the development of the M+ firmware and so on… leading to some interesting and fun updates and additions, who knows. But the next time I have a considerable pouch of dinero, it’s probably going to Push 3. The Swedes might have something nice going on but the infamous workflow is quite scary imo.
