Can I connect the X1 to the S8 so I can have dedicated controls for each of the 4 channels on the S8?

Welcome to the forum.
You can't connect the X1 directly to the S8 because the S8 doesn't have any USB inputs but you don't need to connect the 2 controllers. Just plug the X1 into your laptop and Traktor will give you an option on the X1 to control A&B or C&D so you will have 4 deck control as you want.

No! The D2s have a USB hub built-in in the back, with 2 USB-A ports.
You’ll only need to plug the D2 to the computer, and then you’ll be able to connect the X1 directly to the D2
