Presets in Kontakt 7 do not autoplay, when I click on them - Why?

hey crowd,

I just renewed my studio, also implementing a new Mac book pro with m3 max - Kontakt 7 is now not playing the presets anymore, which is one of the most advantages of the new version I would say. I already tried to reinstall, have the right audio selected (the instruments, when loaded are playing!), restarted the system, etc. Neither in standalone or in daw-integration. Any ideas what could be the problem here?

thanks so much in advance!

update: I reinstalled my whole system - including OS - and: suprise! the previews in KT7 work. don't know why (I'm sorry), but seems to be successful at the moment. unfortunately the NI support is very slow in answering (of course I guess there are many tasks to handle) - so this did not really help - questions were asked, which I already answered beforehand... well. still a success! previews are working with m3 max

This is a bit dumb question, but do you use the keyboard to play the preset?

To play the key and sustaining the key?

If you do, but the preset is not playing, maybe you could increase the sustain and the duration of the note with piano roll instead.

Let me know if it helped.

    thanks for the quick reaction!

no, I don't - I just want to click on one preset of the selection to get an idea of the instrument before I load it into contact.

Oh...you mean you want to preview the preset?

With the new K7 view, you can (for 90% of the instruments).

For the OG rack view from k1 to k6, I am afraid there is no option for that.

that's the point - it worked in the k7 view, prelistening the presets by clicking on them, now it does not anymore.

This has come up before. The short answer is Komplete Kontrol has preset sound previews while Kontakt 7 does not (and I believe has never had).

Well, maybe it is in the Library Settings, probably.

Search around the settings to find out.

But again, the OG Rack view doesn't have the feature, and probably it never will have it.

I know how you feel about it.

hm, maybe I still could not explain it clearly enough - when I open this view in KT7, I always heard the preset sounds, when just clicking on them. Now, it does not preplay the presets anymore...

    I understand exactly what you're saying https://community.native-instruments.com/discussion/18249/s61-mk3-preview-volume-very-low-can-this-be-changed/p2

This has come up before with @Jeremy_NI and there was no resolution. Preview sounds don't work in Kontakt 7.

hum, thanks for that. the weird thing is, it did play for a while. and it still does on my MacBook with M1 - in the Kontakt7 application - also when using it in daw mode

and it does definitely - it's also mentioned in this video from NI - at 17:24 (attached as pdf, as I do not have the right to post links yet.

That's interesting. I'll have to try it out on my Macbook as well.

Judging by the video it seems like they broke something. That video is a year old, so there's been quite a few updates since then. What version do you have installed on your Macbook that works with preview sounds?

I've only been using Kontakt for a few months and as mentioned in the other thread I don't recall the previews ever working, but I believe there are other people who have mentioned the same issue.

interesting. and could be the problem! on my m1 MacBook I have version 7.3.2 and on my new m3 MacBook I have version 7.7.3 (the latest)

whaaat, why should they break this - this a monster advantage - especially in daw mode! grrr!

I created a ticket at NI support - let's see - thanks for your answers so far!

@mertos The previews should work, tested it on a couple of different systems and it's still operational with the latest versions of Kontakt 7. Not sure if it's related to Sonoma or M3 chips, this hasn't been reported yet.

Does it also happen in Kontakt in standalone? Do Kontakt and your DAW have full disk access? How to Enable Full Disk Access on macOS
