    The practical usage would be like this:

    1) Record yourself playing a beat, completely free-form without metronome or anything.

    2) Highlight the notes you just played that are on the sequencer, notes which at this point are not even remotely lined up with the tempo beat of the sequence (because you weren't playing to a metronome).

    3) Click a "Notation Stretch" button (it will have to be added to Maschine).

    4) Drag the left or right side of the highlighted group of notes. For the sake of this example we'll imagine you are dragging the right edge of the note group and pulling it further to the right. The starting points of all the highlighted notes begin to spread out, the ones near the left side of the grouping barely move at all, while the notes near the right side of the selection stay very close to where your cursor is.

    5) Now that you have pulled the notes to new locations, you will see that dragging them in such a way allows the notes to be lined up approximately with the beat of the sequence. You can then turn off the "Notation Stretch" mode and resume work as normal.

    -Note that when you are stretching the notes, you don't just have a limit of stretching them wider apart from one another, you could just as easily grab the edge of the grouping and move it closer inwards to shrink the size of the group, and in that case the same rules would apply to how notes slide around but the end result is that your sequence gets faster.

    -The cool thing about this approach is that it maintains exactly the nature of the beat you put in. And because we are sliding the MIDI start point of the notes rather than manipulating the WAV sample there is no time-stretch artifacts and no additional CPU overhead in doing it this way.

    @bolodaproducer requested:

    Be able to add audio samples direct to sequencer/ playlist

    Like… Clips?

    What is the use case? How should that work? What module should it use?

    Probably some form of audio track, independent from the pattern/clip/section paradigm... This was a major request back in the day before NI decided to go with the Audio-Plug loop player instead.

    Perrenial requests:

    Allow midi fx vsts like Chthulhu.

    Custom chord sets.

    Backup tag database so there’s a way to recover or transfer the info. I’ve had to reinstall and lost all tags on my sample library.
