Native Access Error: "Dependency installation process is taking longer than normal"
Hi,
I have been trying to get Native Access 2 to install on my Windows machine. If I'm not able to, at least I can do the following.
I have worked with Native Access 1 on my Windows machine, and can reinstall again if need be.
I've been spending the last couple of days trying to install Native Access 2 on my Windows machine without success. Each time, I got this:
Native Access Error: "Dependency installation process is taking longer than normal"
I've tried following all the instructions on the NI website including trying and failing to install NTKDaemon.
NTKDaemon would not install because it said I didn't have the right permissions.
So, I installed my account into the appropriate area as instructed on the NI website in the Edit Group Policy.
Again, with no luck.
Each time, when I started over, I would carefully delete the NTKDaemon and the Native Access 2. I removed NTKDaemon using a registry editor. I then used a delete utility to remove Native Access 2. Then I use the registry editor to remove any leftover entriesfrom that software.
I then rebooted the computer.
I've done this several times. Each time, the result was the same.
If anyone else has dealt with this and solved this. I'd love to hear about it.

@dvldvl There was a recent update for Native Access 3.6.0 yesterday, try it out. Also, if the steps provided in this article didn't help: Native Access Error: "Dependency installation process is taking longer than normal"
Please get in touch with our support: http://bit.ly/NIsupport_install

Did you install it through the "Run as Administrator" option? Otherwise it won't work.
The reason for this is, that most users are ....just users (with limited rights), on their own PC's!!! (a practice that i find totally incomprehensible btw...)

Yes. I attempted to install through the "Run as Administrator" option several times. Each time, it didn't work.
Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
Regarding your statement of users with limited rights on their own PC's: It's incomprehensible to me too.

@Jeremy_NI You recommended this suggestion as well for which I thank you ๐
Yeah... I decided to go the route. I'll update once this is fixed.

I've been go back and forth with tech support.
The suggestions they made are mostly what I've tried already. None of which worked.
They even included how to add users to the Local Group Policy Editor, which was something I already looked up through the self-help system.
The only new thing they suggested was creating a new windows admin account and install as an administrator from there.
I tried that and that didn't work either.
Anyway, that's my update for now.
It is Cliona who was handling my case.

Most basically then if you are having problem with installing NTKDaemon and Native Access then not only it is necessary to have removed any and all traces of the APPs in Windows registry but it is also very necessary to remove all traces of the app from all locations on the hard drive. Also , having done all of that you still needs to check Windows TaskManager after reboot to make sure that no related process or service is still left running in Windows. Having made sure that you have cleaned sufficiently all traces of previous installations and install attempts then you will have to direct your attention to check if you have programs running that could possibly disturb the installation (in particular any security programs) . That done you also would have to double check your Windows access privileges for all involved locations.
I don't know if the latest installer of the N.A. app still uses this but some IMO looking as a butt ugly hack Command Window pop up that needed approval appeared when installing N.A. a while back and if it still does then do not expect N.A. to install correctly if not allowed !
Also , though general advice is to only install newest N.A. version then for test version you could also try installing some older version. If doing so then try using REVO Pro for install and uninstall (There is a free TRIAL) which can also assist in some of the above registry cleaning by using the Forced Un-install function... (please notice that any Windows system restore point made by REVO Pro are only requests to system so if you want to be sure to have then you need to make manually made ones !)
Alas , generally trouble shooting tends to be a lot of work..

Some excellent suggestions. Thank you!
I have REVO Pro Uninstall (I added to my subscription today). I used it to uninstall Native Aceess. However, I still had to go through OORegEdit (A free registry Editor) and RegCool (another free registry Editor) to clean out any remaining "debris".
As for NTKDaemon, when it refused to install, it removed itself from the hard drive, but I still needed to go through the registry to remove any remainders.
Installing Native Access 2 was pretty simple. I didn't see any butt ugly hack Command Window pop ups fortunately๐
However getting rid of it, using the tools I've described above, was a bit of a task.
Still I managed it ๐
There was also a folder called "nativeaccess2" in the c:\ drive. I followed your advice and used the forced un-install feature of the REVO Pro to get rid of it. It worked very nicely.
Tomorrow, when I launch windows, I'll turn off the security software and check anything else, that might interfere. Checking the Windows TaskManager should help there.
I have tried all kinds of ways to change the User privileges. Nothing worked. But perhaps combining what I've already done plus your suggestions, may make the difference.
I'll let you know what happens. Cliona of tech support may also have some ideas as well. We'll see.
Thanks again! ๐

I'll give 3.6.0 a try, and get back to you on it.

Well... I did try about everything discussed here. After cleaning out every trace of NTKDaemon and AC2. Then shutting off all security software, and the internet (to hopefully, be safe), I then used my task manager to shut off everything else I can think of. I then emptied out my systray, I'm sorry to say that nothing worked.
Tomorrow, I'll try again, but I'll use the clean Administrative account I've created.
If that doesn't work, I'll just and see what Clionaย has to say. Hopefully, she'll get back to me soon.
Have a good night ๐

Thanks for letting for me know. I downloaded Native Access 3.6.0.
Unfortunately, the results were the same.

Sorry that my suggestions were not of help. Sadly all of it ought to have been handled by support because in the end they are the ones with the real insight into the app , and users , including myself, only have experience and best effort to offer/add.. I could have had another suggestion , but not knowing if it would help and a be lot work then I refrain...
From my personal point of view then N.I. support have to sort this one out for you !
Also , Jeremy_NI is not present in the forum until "November 6th" , look at his post above and at the signature which is now shown all over the forum...

Hi PoorFellow,
Sorry I took so long to respond to you.
Franky at Support suggested I go with this link:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed-cca7d1b6-65a9-3d98-426b-e9f927e1eb4d
(I couldn't make it a link so you'd have to copy and paste.)
But by then, I already did a Windows Repair.
As a result, though I was able to keep all my data, I had to reinstall many of my apps.
However, I was FINALLY able install Native Access without any further problems.
Take care and Happy Holidays!๐

Thank you very much for providing the feedback and I am very glad that you got the stuff to work ๐ In the end that should be what matters the most even if it can be annoying with any problems !
Best wishes for you as well ! And kind regards ๐
