MODX - KOMPLETE AUDIO Interface

Hi there, have connected Yamaha MODX analog audio out, to KOMPLETE AUDIO 6 audio inputs 3 & 4 (via 1/4 TS unbalanced jacks), but cannot manage to get any sound from the active speakers. When the MODX output volume is cranked to the max, there is a slight level indication on the AUDIO 6, but not more that 1-2 bars (or leds...) on the volume scale.

I can always hear the sound of the MODX from the AUDIO 6 headphones, loud & clear, but nothing from the speakers..

Also when playing VSTs via S61, I can hear both instruments (S61 & MODX) via the AUDIO 6 headphones loud & clear, but only the S61 on the speakers.

Have tried connecting the MODX to AUDIO 6 inputs 1 & 2 (on the front of the audio interface using TS unbalanced jacks), but only a low level & quite distorted sound, is coming from the speakers.

Finally, when MODX audio output is connected directly to the active speakers, it all sounds fine, however this time TRS jacks are used.

Any ideas suggestions will be of great help!

@Eugene1972 The volume button on top is for the main output, have you tried to put it to the maximum? Have you put the monitoring to input to 100% like here?

this is what it says in the manual

Note: If you are using a stereo synthesizer or any other stereo line level source connected to IN 3 and IN 4, the input level is fixed. Use the output volume control of your synthesizer or other line level source to adjust the level.

So , you’ll need to raise the output of the modx , past the max volume of the knob , in the audio settings, you can increase the main output gain by +6 db or +12db . Try that

regarding the front inputs 1-2 make sure they are set to LINE , if you’re using a synth

Unfo tried inputs 3-4 with +12db, without success 😥, however did not test inputs 1-2 with +12db, wiil try again tonight!

is it anything to do with the host/device knob on the front of the KA

I’ve owned both at different times , the ka was a few years back , so can’t remember it in full , I remember using the +gain feature on the modx with another interface, one time I did have a problem with a cable , one side was only showing a very low signal like you described, but I fixed the cable ( ts to xlr ) and it was ok

and more importantly this section:

KOMPLETE AUDIO 6 MK2 1-2 / 3-4 Switch

For the KOMPLETE AUDIO 6 MK2, the 1-2 / 3-4 switch needs to be set to the pair of inputs you want to listen to.

The two headphone outputs always receive the same signal as the line-out 1/2. There is no option to listen to the outputs 3/4 over the headphones. Listening to the outputs 3/4 with the KOMPLETE AUDIO 6 MK2 is only possible via the use of a DAW by routing the outputs 3/4 to your master channel.

Thank you Jeremy, the issue is that I do hear the MODX perfectly fine from the headphone output, but I cannot manage to hear it through the speakers!

When the MODX is connected directly to the speakers, there is no issue, it sounds loud & clear.

When the audio output is driven to the KA6 (or KA2 in the past) there is only a faint distorted sound coming from the speakers (again repeat that in this setup, headphones work fine).

Last time I tried to drive MODX audio signal through a small pre-amp/mixer, before the KA6, there was an insignificant increase in audio level, still distorted...

All the above with MODX output level at max & +12dB.

It just makes no sense.....

Please read carefully, at least for the 3-4 inputs not being heard on the speakers:

"Listening to the outputs 3/4 with the KOMPLETE AUDIO 6 MK2 is only possible via the use of a DAW by routing the outputs 3/4 to your master channel."

Now if the problem is on input 1&2 you should try a different usb slot, even try on a different computer. If the issue is the same it could be a hardware default.

@ALDREAD Sorry for the late reply, see my above to Jeremy, also not managed to get XLR cable yet, however tried to use multiple TS cables, just to rule out cable fault....without result :(

Hi everybody, have managed to get XLR-TS adaptors today, well with +12db on the MODX audio out, I have great input 1-2 levels, but still no output to speakers.

Seriously considering throwing the lot out the window....

Dear Jeremy, I have not tried to solve the issue further since October, until I had a re-read of the whole topic tonight...it dawned on me that I was wrongly trying to use the KA6 as a "mixer", where in reality the device isn't one 😜

Indeed as you suggested, support_audio topic mentions:

"Using the Direct Monitoring functionality on the Komplete Audio 1 / 2 / 6 MK2 only lets you monitor the inputs via the headphone outputs. However, it is possible to monitor the inputs via the output pairs on the back of the device when using a DAW.

This means that if you want to listen to your connected instrument or microphone through your speakers, you need to open a DAW (e.g. Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, etc.) and create an audio track. In this audio track, make sure to select the audio interface's input your instrument is connected to. Now, when you record enable this track, you can hear your instrument's sound via your speakers"

So I guess we can close the issue, leaving me a little less dumb as before 😁
