Is it possible to stop and start different scenes of an arrangement in Maschine using a foot switch?

So evidently I just tried it, and just plugging in a classic foot pedal will start and stop an arrangement without doing any sort of set up. What's interesting, though, is that whenever I put the MK3 into MIDI mode the foot pedal seems to have no effect on anything at all despite using the controller editor software. I may be wrong, but I'm thinking that's because whenever it's in MIDI mode, it's sending OUTGOING midi messages and not receiving MIDI INPUT.
Is that right?

Switch Mk3 into MIDI mode and using MIDI by MK3 are two different things....
To use MIDI you do not need switch MK3 into MIDI mode.

I'm not sure how else to ask the question.
It seems that by default, the pedal input on the MK3 while not in MIDI mode starts and stops the arrangement. When I go into the controller editor, you can assign the pedal input port to do a number of things. What I'm trying to say I think is that whenever I change the assignment to anything, it seems to have no impact. The pedal continues to function as a start/stop switch no matter what I change it to. I'm just trying to test out all of the functionality right now.

Are you trying to control Maschine software through the Maschine Controller in Midi Mode?

I am not. Using it in standard mode

Well, the Controller editor configures the hardware for Midi Mode only.

Okay good to know. So what exactly do you use MIDI mode for on the MK3 anyways?
also, is it possible to have a pedal do anything else besides start/stop since that seems to be the default behavior in non-midi mode?

The Maschine controllers in midi mode are just normal midi controllers and do whatever you envision them to do in DAWs, midi enabled software or hardware environments.
Together with Maschine software they work only like NI configures them to work. You have next to no influence over what this protocol does.
I explained earlier, IIRC, that if you plug a two-button footswitch into a Maschine mk3 or Jam that works in its NATIVE MODE with Maschine software, you can use one of them for start/stop and the other for record arm.

From my experience, Controller Editor also changes how Footswitch works for standalone/plugin, at least for continuous messages, we can pick what it does in that mode, like for example wich CC you want an expression pedal to use.
But for switch mode it does nothing.

Well, I'll be damned!
