Komplete 14 Ultimate with Windows 7 64

Hello,

During this discount period I'm planning to buy the update of Komplete 14 Ultimate, but I'm still with Windows 7. I saw that I couldn't use Kontakt 7 and some other programs but could I still use the majority of the software without limitations or hassles?

    Yes, you can still use all the programs that are compatible with Windows 7

    If there weren't all those fastidious reinstallations to do, it wouldn't be a luxury to update my computer system.

    Indeed, Windows 7 is a bit archaic for modern applications :-)

    I'll have to chime in a bit here. All current versions of our plug-ins and applications require Windows 10 as a minimum. That means we don't offer support in case of a problem with these versions on Windows 7. If you need them, you can find previous versions of the said plug-ins that are compatible with Windows 7 here: Compatibility of Native Instruments Products on Windows

    I guess, the thing is that NI just does not test it under Win7 and does not provide support. There were few plugins even in K13U, that were not officially compatible with Win7, like GR6 and Super 8, I guess. But I managed to install them all and run without problems on Win7.

    Just, it was not possible to install it using NA directly. I had to get installers using NA on computer with Win10 and install it on Win7 using that installer. Running NA afterwards did the authorisation of installed plugins....

    I do not say, I would recomend it. Just that it is possible. I do understand one does not want to leave Win7, I left them a year ago... And I still use WinXP because of legacy SW....

    I already have some weid issues with the NI applications (installations and program functionalities , and in particullar the Komplete kontrol soft...) but now I realize that should be my old W7 system which is guilty.

    I would not feel nostalgia to leave W7 but the brain teaser to update all my computer environment ðŸ˜Ŧâ˜đïļðŸĪŠ whereas the main applications are working well; but I fear that it will be necessary.

    Do a drive image based backup of your system drive before upgrading to Windows 10 (if your computer are more than a few years old then you will most likely need new hardware to upgrade directly to Windows 11) , then if you do not like your upgrade you can revert to the old system. I actually did that years back when first Windows 10 were free to upgrade to , so I did an upgrade to earn the Windows 10 use right , then took another backup of that and then reverted to Windows 7 !

    I personally prefer Paragon Hard Disk Manager Advanced for backup purposes but there is also a free Paragon Backup & Recovery Community Edition. Many other people have each their preferred make of backup software but this ought to give you the general idea ! , ref. :

    You will eventually be forced to upgrade your O.S. for one reason or another.... I myself being someone that has been a great fan of Windows 7 (up there with Win XP and Win 98SE) then I have to say that I think that Windows 10 actually is a lot greater than I initially thought, though it takes some getting used to all that follows...

    Unfortunately, my computer is around 10 years old even it was mounted by a professional with very high quality components corresponding to the time. It's very silent and runs like a Swiss clock; Some years ago I replaced the hard disks for SSD (even there is on Sata II only), and some connections for usb 3, but I think that a total replacement will be inevitable in the very near future.

    So, what would you advise me to do with my imposing old computer which works like a charm?

    Quick answer , what you do with an old PC that you are fond of ? You make sure that it's runs perfectly with no vira and no kind of software problems. And you have it filled with your favorite old software and load whatever useful stuff that might be handy , you know like a free office suite like Apache OpenOffice or LibreOffice and printer drivers and stuff so that you at least got a nice electronic type writer if you should otherwise get tired of it. Then you clean up all the old temp files and otherwise polish the OS . Then you kill all network adapters in the OS and take a backup of it all , then after that you might also want to do a fresh install of your OS and again polish it , and then take a backup of that , then re-load first backup and then you ought to be good to go to enjoy your old PC with what you can use it for. Retrospectively though then often one does not use all them old computers when a new one has arrived. But when the above is done and you are capable of reloading your Windows 7 setup at will then why not try some Linux installations ? Linux has come very far so when you got a new PC then why not try Ubuntu Linux , Linux Mint , or whatever flavor on the old computer , which then is suddenly running with fantastic speed with the nice SSD and all !


    I did like you and upgraded with SSD drives on my old computers , so now someone elderly I know uses a rather old Core 2 Duo laptop, I dunno maybe 14-15 years old ?, that I supplied , it was a really good laptop when bought (around 2K USD) and so good that it still is better than a more generations newer Celeron which is really poor and the person is happy since it runs rather well still with the SSD upgrade + more RAM and Win 10 64 bit. And my own PC has an Intel i7-6700 CPU that were introduced like 8 years ago and that's the best I have. Graphics card is a , I dunno , maybe 7 generations old Nvidia x60 , but I have plenty of system RAM which is a really redeeming feature of my setup !!!

    Why the story ? , well , if you a really happy with your computer then why not wait buying a new one until either maybe some months before that Windows 10 is EOL or at least wait until you think that you got the right offer for a new one or that you have found all you want to assemble a new one. Just always remember to backup both OS and any important files including your music !

    If your computer were great 10 years ago then the best that you have is maybe that it got an Intel 47xx or something and that's maybe not that great but can still be upgraded to Windows 10. Part of the equation is also if your present OS is OEM or retail. I myself got retail PRO Windows version on all my computers , meaning that if/when I want to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 then I can backup and copy the whole OS to a brand new PC and then most likely link/transfer my OS license to the new PC , meaning that I ought not have to pay for a new PRO version OS. Of course if one is happy with Windows 11 home and that's usually free with a pre-assembled PC then no problem with that..

    Other than that , then I agree , depending on other general configuration and use then your computer ought to be replaced with a new one. So does mine , but it will have to wait especially with the present graphics card prices !

    Suggestions for a new PC ? Intel Core i7-13700K Raptor Lake CPU - 16 cores - 3.4 GHz - Intel LGA1700 , they get hot (hotter than gen. 12) 125W standard / 250W when turbo (given wattage include in CPU graphics), they allow for power throttling, I have assembled a PC with one and if you just use it as a typewriter then you can find a really nice air cooler but if you want to run it hot then it's hard to find an air cooler capable of keeping it cool , so prepare for water-cooling which comes cheap anyway these days ! You of course need the right casing but casing always takes a lot of consideration. Then a MB with Intel Z790 Express Chipset , RAM ? DDR5-5600 or faster , consider 16 GB system RAM a bare minimum these days , especially if playing computer games - some games , even 'strategy'/'simulation', are known to cause problems with only 16 GB. Graphics card ? If wanting to play games in UHD (4K) then you must have at least 12GB of RAM on the graphics card , mind you a weak GPU might come with 12GB RAM but will otherwise not be able to run the games that need all that RAM... As for hard drive , then YES ! , you want M2 NVME , but not only that , if you wait just a little longer then support for MS DirectStorage will most likely be common place ?? (I don't know how much yet.) Also the fastest drives are often not those promising longest life , life is often not given (then maybe better skip) , but is otherwise given in PetaByte , SSD also NVME actually often can not muster more that 3-500 writes to same cells (on average , like 1.2 PB for a 4TB drive) before they are considered worn (depending on drive) , but the best NVME can handle something between 750 and 1000 writes to same cells ~ meaning a life of up to 1 PB per 1 TB of drive ! Drives however distributes the writes I think to even out wear why most people may not be confronted with drive failure anyway ! I could recommend drives with an expected long life but it is I think beyond the novel that this has turned out to become , sorry for that !

    You are very welcome ! Incidentally , if you are not in need of latest generation hardware when making PC then maybe a previous generation i7 CPU : e.g. Intel Core i7-12700K Alder Lake CPU - 12 cores - 3.6 GHz - Intel LGA1700 could also do as nice replacement and it's only like 2/3 of the price of present generation 13 equivalent...
