Why not keeping SERVICE CENTER available for Legacy products?

Since my MAC PRO 1,1 from 2006 was showing some sign of weakness I could not fix, I recently bought (100€) a new old stock unit of the exact same version, in order to keep on going with my configuration. I had the opportunity to install my OS hard drive in the new unit but I decided to reinstall a new system to start fresh.

OSX 10.6-> just fine,

ProTools-> just fine,

Waves GOLD-> just fine,

TRAKTOR 3-> just fine untill Service Center announced me it could not connect. And you know why.

I'm a OSX 10.6 user. Why ? Because it works fine.

I bought KONTAKT 2 to replace my Hardware sampler EMU e6400 then upgraded to KONTAKT 3 in 2007.

I'm a ProTools HD 8 owner/user. It was a lot of money and lot of machines. My whole set up is very stable.

Why would I switch to something else, to replace my existing products if everything works fine ?

Arn't we suppose to avoid surconsumerism ?

I thought and expected from NI as a German company to be more ecologically oriented.

Why not keeping SERVICE CENTER available for Legacy products ?

I stopped buying Waves products (I own GOLD plus a few individual Plugs) because they left me and so many others behind. Look at them now.

I stopped upgrading ProTools because they were switching to "rental" or "non full ownership" licences... just like Waves did...

I went back to Hardware (for the sound of course but as well) to avoid the pain of the licenses problems. I own my products. No one will tell me one morning... "sorry mate, you can't use your preamp, EQ, limiter... 'cause you need to upgrade whatever and by the way, you will need to upgrade the rest of your studio as well".

Now, 16 years later, in the middle of an album build with other artists, I'll have to fully switch back to my e6400 just because I made the mistake to enjoy and be dependent of one of NI products ?

NI just dropped me ?

Seriously ?

What do you think ?

    I agree. All I had was my 2007 macbook for gigs and could never get traktor 2 to work again n it when it was very stable. Switching to windows brought another nightmare and could not get it to work either.

    At the end of the day my computer died and there is plenty of motherboard waiting for me to fix it but at this point it is just pointless since It won't help me to have a working setup back.

    I feel you mate

    I try to express this kind of thing constantly.

    But…unfortunately…this is not how the world goes

    And…even more unfortunately…people seems to accept it as a matter of fact

    They really did a good job instilling deep in our thoughts WE ARE NOT the ones deciding, but it’s THEM

    (not talking about NI here, but the whole Babylon system. But that day will come…Jah will catch dem…)

    (I really hope you understand Jamaican Patois or French…Rastafarian thoughts on the matter on this very small documentary. People wanting to decide for the others, keeping them under a yoke, consumerism…JAH FIRE PURIFY THIS WORLD!)

    "Ultimately, it's up to you to decide what's best for your needs and workflow. If sticking with your current setup is working well for you and allowing you to create the music you want, then there's nothing wrong with continuing to use it."

    Obviously... it's not working.

    Seriously you write like an AI ! 😂

    Message canceled

    I first thought this was a message from some NI moderator but then I checked the profil... Then I checked at the time it took him to write his message. Wrote mine at 2:55. His was published at 3:06. Considering he was writing at the same time time another message at 3:03. I think this guy would be a pretty good writer to compose such a text in such a short time, with absolutely (if I'm not mistaken myself) no mistake, but I could be wrong ! ;)

    Anyway... NI doesn't wan't to pay for real people to answer/moderate, that is the new way. Sad, but not surprise.

    They should just not take away the right to enjoy licences once fully paid.

    If they are technically able to develop new systems, they are able to maintain or at least let available for those who wish to keep on going, systems that have been fully developed and that have proven efficiency for many years.

    So, again : Why not keeping SERVICE CENTER available for Legacy products ?

    Seriously ?

    I'm not a Graincube or PTC specialist but I think there might be a slight difference between the two subjects... but again... I could be wrong.

    Cooper: Hey TARS, what's your honesty parameter?

    TARS: 90 percent.

    Cooper: 90 percent?

    TARS: Absolute honesty isn't always the most diplomatic nor the safest form of communication with emotional beings.

    Cooper: Okay, 90 percent it is.

    "What do you think?"

    There comes a point in life where you just have to go with the times. It's inevitable. Nostalgia aside, holding onto outdated hard- and software is not necessarily a good idea - for many reasons.

    Real people moderating here, surprise surprise. 🙂

    As for your question about Service Center, it's still accessible - as long as you still use a compatible OS and don't reinstall your drive, as outlined in this article here: Service Center and Legacy Products End of Life

    Maintaining a legacy product requires resources so unfortunately we had to make a decision to discontinue it. However, I think our support team might be able to help you though. Have you contacted us? https://bit.ly/n1install

    Hello Kaiwan_NI

    You wrote : "As for your question about Service Center, it's still accessible - as long as you still use a compatible OS and don't reinstall your drive, as outlined in this article here: Service Center and Legacy Products End of Life"

    So basically...you just confirm it's not accessible. Since I'm using SX 10.6 and I reinstalled my OS and apps.

    Which is basically the reason I wrote my message. Message that explains the reasons why I can't use my licence.

    I'm not sure I fully understand your "intervention".

    So, you think your support team might be able to help me... but you're not sure ?

    If you only think, shall I consider that you only came into this conversation for moderating some of the previous messages ?

    Try it and you will see. In the past it was possible to use SC also in offline. Even that has been put down few years ago, but maybe that NI has reconsidered it and it is possible again. But it is not officially advertised.

    Generally, NI should provide means to authorise even EOL SW. IMHO, they would loose, if one would put it to the court. But I am not lawyer, so that is just my opinion...

    I am sure NI will try to find solution for you. If there is solution.
