OK, how much does it cost to make a new iPad super trouper application for creating music? And how many users would it have? And what fee would NI had to ask to make it profitable?
Who is the target group? And how wealthy this group is? How much are they willing to pay every month?
And, the biggest assest of NI would not be samples, but plugins, Kontakt Libraries and hardware.

The new leadership of NI/iZotope has set the stage for a new skunkworks team, and did so publicly.

Sorry, but all current versions and/or presentations of plugins, libraries and hardware are legacy items to the new ecosystem. Current hardware will have some limited function within the new ecosystem, but purely as "dumb" controllers reliant on a bridge into the new realm.
NI users investment in current software will be ushered into the new ecosystem with substantial discounts on subscription based on amount of investment and how long held.

So, NI would have to invest even much, much, more, which makes the whole "project" even more unprobable to happen because of economical reasons. ;-)
Users would not be willing to pay fortune for ocasional fiddling with samples.
As I said, the ball is on side of Apple. It is simple, just let Mac applications run on iPad. It should not be a big problem. The same OS, the same CPU. It needs just a simple thing, to remove market segmentation barriers.

Options are options... and the beauty of this ecosystem is its deceptive simplicity. There will be an inherent ability to integrate into production systems beyond the "personal" level.
And all of your "personal" contribution into a larger production system will carry your identity if desired. Handy for credits and micropayments.
Performance data will be auto-tagged for where/when/who/device

I have a differing view on the matter.
I've long been following the development of MacOS (since MacOS 7 to be exact) and iOS (Since whatever iOS iPhone 4 used), and I think that Apple is going to increase compatibility of MacOS and iOS even further in the near future. I envision things moving to a point where all M1 devices can run the same code, only differing in the UI and controls they present to the user being customized for every device on the fly.
So no need for NI to do anything other than making sure their software runs well on M1 systems and keeps up with the latest Apple "standards".
The latest MacOS can already run iOS code.. the reverse might also be possible soon enough (given an app is correctly authored and suitable rituals and blood money is paid to Apple, that is)

Karaoke night at your local pub will no longer be just for singers....
Lots of fun ahead.
