Maschine Software w/ S88 MK3 only?

I currently use Maschine software with my Maschine MK2 and my S88 MK1. I'm looking to pre-order the S88 MK3. If I parted ways with my Maschine MK2, would I still be able to use the Maschine software by only using the S88 MK3?

As far as I have seen in a video they droped the maschine integration, cause of user data saying not many ppl use the keyboards with maschine. So maybe in the future there will be some integration but in your case I would wait until it's sure. Or change to another DAW. I don't like that they have dropped it but it is what it is.

I can see their reasoning. Presumably most people buying Maschine are "beat makers", and they specifically wanted a device with pads. If they do add keys at some point, it's more likely they'll go for M32 or similar.

    Exactly.

Having dedicated Maschine buttons on MK2 was an annoyance to me. Having such "genre specific" stuff taking up prime real estate on a product intended to be more universal in music production context.

I did not use most of Maschine buttons on S88 mk1 even if I did use only the keyboard and no controller.

I did use those arrows to load next/predious patch or to switch to another Sound slot in Maschine.

This prime real estate being open is perfect for an Apple trackpad

I have a feeling this was not in the way...

We are all different and I respect that, but that little real estate was put to very good use - considering that MKIII lost all of the integration, including the transport controls. Maybe that will change, I personally was looking forward for the kontrol to be more komplete at launch.

There perhaps will be some future ways to control Maschine in the DAW mode on the MK3.

In the meantime, not having dedicated buttons for something so specific as Maschine control was the right decision in my opinion.

    Because less is more 🤷‍♂️

I will certainly won't argue with that. I just wish they made it more expensive for this brilliant concept.

Well they could have built a cup-holder into it and bumped the price a bit.

Maybe the way it looks right now is to get a real world responses and then make final changes before launch. Nothing wrong with pushing back the launch date to put out a better product. All the YouTube content creators that I've watched have said the keyboard may still have bugs and is not the final product we get. I personally don't understand why they took Maschine integration away..... This was one of the things that drew me to the S61 and Maschine. I like the way everything worked together......and Akai even recognized this by releasing their Key 61 with pads. I don't need pads on the keyboard if I have a Maschine controller, but I do want the integration depending on my setup and how I choose to work. It's funny how everyone has an opinion based off their own personal needs and not for the needs of the community. I will wait and see if there is a new Maschine hardware item to go with this new NKS technology and new design since it seems that's what should be next. Otherwise I'm cool and will keep my S61 Mk2 and Maschine + combo.....

How did they collect this data?

if the answer is people who’ve opted to share anonymous information, then I’d say that’s a bad move….

    whatever….

The scope of music that lends itself to the Maschine environment is relatively narrow.

If you want to work in the Maschine environment that's OK.. there are dedicated Maschine controllers for you to buy.. and there will be more to come.

Kontrol MK3 is reaching to be something different.

If I remember well, Maschine (and many other NI programs) have user experience collecting feature. One may opt out, but it is IMHO on by default. I doubt, many people switch it off.

So, NI may have relatively precice picture (tens of thousands users) of what features of SW and HW customers use. And how. And NI may analyze it even in deeper detail, like split customers to power users, ocasional users, beginners and like.... And study precisely each user group separately.

I bet NI knows about their SW and HW usage a lot.
