KOMPLETE KONTROL S88 MK2 metronome Bug!
Dear NI KK (keyboard) driver/development team,
I have brought up this issue before, but for some reason, my post disappeared. I would like the metronome to work correctly for my S88 MK2 keyboard in Cubase 12 Pro.
This is how I know it's not Cubase that is at fault here.
I connect S88 Mk2 to a computer running Cubase 12 Pro. I start a project with the metronome off. Then I press the metronome button on my S88 MK2, and the metronome on Cubase GUI lights up but with no sound. I click the button off using a mouse and then click it again with the mouse, and it starts working. If I now press the metronome button on MK2, the metronome goes on and off as expected. However, if I save the project again with the metronome off, the keyboard cannot turn on the metronome.
I also own KK M32 Keyboard for my portable setup. If I disconnect S88 MK2 and connect M32, to the "same computer" the metronome works correctly, even when I save the project with the metronome off.
Can you please fix this bug? I have been asking for this bug fix for a long time now.
Thanks,...

Hi, are you using the original NI's integration or my script for Cubase 12, linked here:

Original, everything is original, and all other functions work correctly, except for metronome.

Hi, I've tried to reproduce the issue, following the steps you described and I couldn't.
Furthermore, I'm puzzled with "Then I press the metronome button on my S88 MK2, and the metronome on Cubase GUI lights up but with no sound". This clearly indicates that the metro gets to its ON state. Thus, the controller actually did the intended action. As to why you hear no sound (again, I couldn't replicate this) I think is an issue to be discussed in Steinberg's forum, where there are a lot of experienced users who may resolve it. One thing you may want to check is the Metronome's settings (setup). Maybe, just maybe, it resets somehow the ticked "Click while recording" and "Click while playing", accidentally assigned to a midi remote surface? I really don't know, since your M32 works as expected.

mchantzi Thanks for replying, I think it’s a firmware issue with the keyboard, NI has duplicated this issue in the past but they just don’t want to fix it. Their new controllers have no issue yet S88 does. Other users can clearly see this issue as well… metronome has to be on manually by mouse then it works else it does not. It’s not a metronome settings issue at all…

Hello, I have an S49 and I see it has the very same firmware 0.5.9, with no issues.
Anyway, out of curiosity, maybe you give a try to my own script and see if it works? After all, it offers plenty of options, not just the mixer. Sorry I couldn't help.

If it's not firmware, then perhaps a driver issue, yes I can try the script you wrote, but I like the way everything is setup for Cubase excluding metronome functionality.

do you have an S88 you can try>?

Hi, no, just the s49. But it would be strange if they're not sharing the very same firmware since all controls are identical to 49/61/88.
Concerning the driver, I always have it updated to the latest version.

Do you also have FW 0.5.9 on S49? my M32 works flawlessly with metronome, but the flagship S88 does not. it can also be the driver.
metronome does not have to be turned on by mouse click 1st with M32, but with S88 it must be enable by mouse click 1st, only then you can turn it on or off with S88. Which defeats the purpose of having a button for metronome if you have to use a mouse.

Yes, as previously said, I have the 0.5.9.
Honestly, since the metronome in the UI goes On when you hit the hardware button, I really cannot get to connect it to a hardware/driver issue, I mean the mission of the hardware button is accomplished once the UI shows on. And since you're saying that your metronome setup (playback, record tick) is what it's supposed to be, I really run out of ideas here, sorry. It would a worth a try, out of pure curiosity by my side, to make this:
Open Cubase, create a new project, open the metronome setup and then hit the "Metro" button. Every parameter stays the same there?

I can try that for sure... try that with S88 then M32.
