Is it possible to stop and start different scenes of an arrangement in Maschine using a foot switch?

Thank you. You confirmed what I was supposing on how all this works.
So…I guess the definitive answer to OP original question is “it’s possible to stop and start different scenes of an arrangement in Maschine using a foot switch only by using a MIDI Footswitch with many buttons, assigning the right midi messages to every button to allow them to start the assigned scene, but not with a single button footswitch (unless used in combination with a program that transforms the single midi message sent by the single Footswitch)”
Side note: starting the app without selecting anything makes it “presume” it is on scene one, so the “next button” at its first push just send the message for scene 2

the maschine scene selector application requires the RTP midi on PC or if you are using appleOS you could use the network midi which is essentially RTP for apple....
it straight forward once you have either of those 2 network based applications running in the background
also i believe the application only works on channel 1 with midi change

Are these infos for OP?

if it helps certainly!

I don’t think he would be interested in Maschine Scene Selector, since he want to use a footswitch connected to Maschine.
Using MSS would mean he has to use hands to switch scenes…at this point he could just plug any other midi controller to the computer. Or use Maschine scene switching itself if he doesn’t need to be on another “page” to play something live

Lots of good info here, thanks everyone. After thinking about it I think my more immediate need is to be able to start the song with a foot switch. There are songs that start with no drums and I need to bring in drums later in the song.
i looked at the Controller Editor and it does appear that you can assign start/stop to the pedal input on the Maschine controller. My question is how do you actually do this? The pedal input is a 1/4” input and not a midi input. Can I send midi signals through the 1/4” pedal input??

your footswitch device albeit pedal you have... needs to be able to send midi signals and also the footswitch requires that the midi is configureable... meaning you can adjust the assignment of the midi notes/CC coming from out of the device.... if the pedal cannot do this, the pedal is somewhat limited.
out of curiousity what is the footpedal make & model

I don’t have the pedal yet. I only currently have a sustain pedal for my keys. Mg question is how am I going to send midi to the MK3 through a 1/4” port? The “pedal” port on the back of the MK3 accepts 1/4”, not MIDI.

MIDI Footswitches have MIDI out via USB or DIN.
Pedals that only send 2 signals have the 1/4 inch jack

What pedal do I need to buy to tell the MK3 to start/stop the track?

They all work afaik, something like this: https://www.amazon.com/NUX-FootSwitch-Keyboard-Modules-Effect/dp/B07KJGS6V6/, i wouldnt go spending a lot on something like this, 30-40$ max
If you want to test it just grab any stick 1/4" jack cable you might have laying around and use something made of metal to make contact between the 2/3 different parts:
If any of those 3 touch each other it sends the signal, maybe with a papper clip or something.

Can I test it with my existing sustain pedal? It’s 1/4”. One thing that’s still unclear is that even if the sustain pedal works at starting the arrangement, it looks like start and stop are different messages, so it would seem I’d still need to look into an actual midi pedal

this video might be helpful, but you do need to recognise the limitations of such pedals... assignable midi footpedals will open alot more possibilitys...
i personally have a FCB1010 midi foot controller which only has 5din midi in&out/thru.. no usb connections
ive yet add it to into the mix... but the options for me to control many aspects of Daws/maschine/DJ software etc are there for me... this can be done with some clever configuration

Using classical footswitch just one is enough. First "click" works as PLAY , next as STOP, next as PLAY, and so on. Each push just changes the PLAY/STOP state.
Sidenote. Maschine MK3 has DIN MIDI in/out, no problem to connect MIDI footswitch, if it has DIN MIDI out.... Also some of NI keyboards do have DIN MIDI socket. I am not sure if it is the case of your keyboard. But if yes, you could plug MIDI pedal to keyboard and skip Maschine, if you prefer not using it...

Not sure tbh, I think with a Sustain you could test Continuous CC? Hook it up and mess around in Controller Editor and see what happens.
Pretty sure even a 1/4 cable connected to one of those 3$ lamp on/off foot switches would work ass a guetto solution if you only want to spend like 10$
