Another NKS conversion for Audiothing - this time their crazy Formant Filter 'The Orb' - template and presets with this

btw they have a sale on at the moment

The second contribution I wish to make will probably not be useful to everyone but is an invaluable tool in terms of control modulation in Maschine.

MidiShaper by Cable Guys allow to route Waveforms to Maschine 2 controls and much more. The mapping alows a lot of creative automation possibity and also can bring things like long automation rising curves which are hard to make in Maschine but by hand.

It is a modest and cheap tool but for me it fills a big gap in Maschine.

Kalfodh, I don’t plan on using effects NKS presets much. But I stalled them and they seem just fine. Presets, napping all looking goid. Nice job.

I have a technical question from you Specialist

How do I remove Custom types and Character I added in the edit tab.

When I began using Maschine I kind of created a mess but there is only the option to add but not remove

Also since 2016 I changed system, deleted everything many times in preferences folder but all thos categories always remained which i can't technically explain.

is there a DB file or something I can edit to remove those "extra" categories ?

    Thanks

    Solution 1 (the hard choice):

    • Go to C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Native Instruments\Maschine 2
    • Delete the file komplete.db3
    • Open Maschine and re-scan everything from scratch
    • If this not work, then delete also the file user_config.db3 and re-scan. Note that, this will remove your personal library choices (custom folders etc.) so you will have to add them again.

    Solution 2 (the smart choice):

    • Open Maschine
    • Click on the desired Type or Character you want to remove.
    • Select ALL files beneath.
    • Click "Edit" and just deselect the non desirable value.
    • Repeat process for all the rest unwanted Types or Characters.

This will not work on Factory NKS (of any plugin) but it will work on User NKS. For the Factory ones, you need to move them temporarily to the User folder, update them there and finally, move them back to their original folder.

Note: sometimes the "hard choice" is not that hard and the "smart choice" is not that smart. It depends on how huge your database is. Good luck ;-)

Thank you I tried all those tricks and what I would like is being able to remove entries from the list. I usually chose the hard choice and rebuild my database. I do that on a regular basis when doing my mappings.

from what I understand the only way would be to remove the tags from presets as the scan repopulate the list.

is there a nerdy manner to clear all tags from a list of Maschine presets files in a recursive manner ?

Maschine "Factory" tags can not be removed. All the rest can. If you are looking for some "magical", "one-click" solution, there is not. Or at least i don't know any

I can be done, but it is not easy and I am not 100% sure of the process. It involves replacing characters in the presets in a hex editor so as not to upset the checksum, but to invalidate the tags. It was trial and error and many times the preset file would be corrupted. I've done it. I've also opened the KK database, but I had less luck there, even if you were able to remove tags there, they would likely return if you were to rescan the presets.

Kaldosh, sorry. I meant to say that your trash 2 presets seem fine

"even if you were able to remove tags there, they would likely return if you were to rescan the presets"

Absolutely not. If you remove the tags from the presets, they are gone for ever. However the "factory tags" (the default tags) of Maschine, are not in the presets but inside the software itself. Thus they can not be removed, unless if you hack the .exe file.

That’s right. I really wish NI had never allowed people to make up custom tags, it’s so stupid. I keep having to get rid of them too and wish it was possible to just reset them all in one go, my library is so cluttered with them at times.

Also if you want to edit tags in factory presets you can try to make the owner of the folder where the presets exists (if you're in Windows). I remember some years ago i use this solution to edit the tags from factory presets
