Maschine 3.4 on MacOS 26.1 immediately crashing

After upgrading to Maschine 3.4 and MacOS 26.1, I can't open Maschine 3 anymore. It crashes within milliseconds! Maschine 2.18.4 opens just fine…
Other apps within the Komplete package are showing the same behavior.

Anybody else seeing this?

Hoping you are aware that Mac OS Tahoe is not supported for any NI products right now.

I was afraid of that… For literally no other application I use (and pay for!) I need to hold out on upgrading. NI have had developer access for quite some time now, so there shouldn't be any surprises. The whole point of those early access programs is to make sure things are working on launch day.
Ableton is fully functioning by the way. Never had any issues after OS upgrades. And Retina (high-DPI) support was added a long time ago ;).

You are making it sound like NI has nothing better to do than spend their entire summer bowing to Apple's idea of a test window.

Companies do - what they need to do - when they need to do it.

Given the vast size of their catalog - Ni usually requires about 4 months AFTER a release - to determine compatibility. They cannot control what Apple does - and even AFTER a release - Apple is known to starting changing things around on a whim - which in some extreme cases is enough to have to start testing all over again.

If you want stability - you should be on Sequoia right now.

Best practice for a stable DAW is to remain one version back on an OS - especially if Mac is your thing.

That's right - since NI are a software company, I do expect them to have OS compatibility in the top 3 of their deliverables - at any given time! Apple distribute developer builds in June and release in September. There is no need to wait until September to start testing. In my other life I am a PO working with developers every day. Based on the symptoms I see here, I could go into detail what is not working over there organizationally, but that would be pointless in this forum…

And no - I will not hold back my OS version and risk security issues because of a slow developer team at NI. I prefer to switch DAWs, especially since there is no indication that this history of slow adoption is changing anytime soon.

If you're interested, a long time ago Ableton released a behind the scenes video where their developers talked about how they adopted 'Agile' and how that completely changed their release predictability and software quality. That's exactly how other industries are managing software projects and how you get things done.

They also have a huge manufacturer's compatibility list, and most of the listings are negative. No Tahoe support.

Well - have fun then. Switching DAWs won't help you if your NI product is still important to you.

You have been given a very strong possible cause for your issues - yet you still decide it's a good idea to "fight" the answer and attempt to justify using unsupported software and then wonder why it doesn't work.

Not really sure what to say to that.

It’s not Tahoe, at least not by itself.

How do I know it? I’ve been a bit of a naughty boy and (with no important work at the moment) installed Tahoe on my Mac Studio, with a possibility of reinstalling Sequoia, as my Mac came with Sequoia (so I can go back, if needed).

Anyway, I’ve tested all NI apps I have, including Maschine as a plugin and standalone and no crashes here at all.

To the OP, if you install unsupported OS, you are on your own, mate.

I know what I’m doing and I know how to go back to previous version, but not everyone does. Don’t try that at home 🤣

Yes, you should hold back on upgrading your OS to the next version. This will NOT make you more vulnerable. The previous version(s) will always be patched, especially when it comes to security.
Yes, it’s true that NI is very slow when it comes to adopting new OS-versions and testing there hardware and software. Arguing that Apple (and Microsoft) cannot dictate the pace on which other manufacturers or vendors should follow is like a shop holding back on the winter collection because you they have summer outfits in stock. They should and can anticipate at least a bit faster.

Have a good long look here and you will see that many, many others are also "taking their time":

Quick guess that about 90% of the vendors listed have not officially declared any compatibility as of today.

Unless you are brave and bold and willing to live with consequences of your actions. But then, best not to cry all over the internet if something doesn’t work… 😉

Being serious, best to wait at least 6 months before upgrading to major next version of MacOS, it’s just common sense.

Upgrading to Tahoe is completely pointless right now anyway - it offers nothing significant to audio producers and is a step backwards graphically. It is also not more secure - Apple are continuing to provide the same security patches to Sequoia and will for a long time

You probably should have just stuck to your first sentence ("hold back") in your post - and left it there.

Just took the risk and upgraded to Tahoe today. But I did a Timemachine Backup of the Old System, so I can rollback to Sequoia.

At the moment everything is running fine. Maschine MK3, Komplete Kontrol S88 MK3, aggregated Audio devices (PreSonus Studio 1824c paired with Neural DSP QuadCortex) and tested every Plugin I use the most alltogether with NI stuff: Kontakt 8, Maschine 3, Serum 2, Omnisphere 3 and just one audio recording track on a Macbook Pro 16" with M3 Max 64GB.

It was important for me upgrading to the new OS, because I am not using this Mac not only for audio production.

The only thing you have to do on a Mac is using Timemachine for a potential rollback. 🤷‍♂️
