Saving a Remix Set - How to Include the audio Files in Export

After creating a remix set, and loading it into say deck D, in the deck header, i can choose "save remix set" - but how do i choose to export the samples WITH the remix set file?
As it stands now, if any included file's absolute path gets breached (i move a file, rename it), it seems to break the entire remix set. Therefore, exporting/saving the remix set but choosing to include the audio files themselves therein, would prevent this issue, as the files contained therein would no longer be referenced by their absolute paths. But it seems that there is no option to export the said samples with the .trak file, at least not in Traktor 4.4. Any ideas?

When you export the Remix Set, the files are saved in the .trak file. But, until you actually clear the Remix Deck and re-import the new Remix Set, the Remix Set in the Remix Deck will reference the files on your hard drive, and not the files in the .trak… It's a weird behaviour, but it is what it is…

To test this, clear your Remix Deck, then re-import your Remix Set from the .trak file.

Once you've created a Remix Set, always, ALWAYS export it, clear the Remix Deck, and re-import the new Remix Set. 👍️

Sorry for the delay in reply, and thanks for your help, Patch.

After your reply, and a closer look, I realize now that:

clicking the deck header and choosing "save remix set" merely affords you the chance to save the changes you've made to your remix set during this session (say you add things or change anything).
Right-clicking on the entry for your remix set in the browser allows you to create the .trak file. As you said, the files themselves seem to be stored inside this file, based on the size of it on the disk.

However, after doing all of this, I then loaded another song into the deck (clearing the remix set), moved a bunch of the files, which the remix set contained, to another location (otherwise breaking the link between Traktor and entries for those sounds). The remix set now simply OMITS those samples/files from the remix set, as if they were never part of it. Well, that's better than prior Traktor behavior (where the entire Remix Set was dead), but how can this be if the .trak file contains copies of those same files therein?

*Edit: When i load the remix set, i get a red message at the bottom of the screen alerting me that those files could not be loaded as they are missing or corrupt (of course i moved them).

Alright i got the full skinny on this. When you poke around long enough…

the audio files are NOT saved with the remix set upon export. All remix sets in traktor 4.x refer to the files therein in their absolute paths. Moreover, the export exists as a backup option only. While the exported .trak file can be imported (if you drag it into the “Remix Sets” section of the browser tree, Traktor will sense that this is a duplicate of the remix set already implemented into collection.nml, which is indeed where remix sets live, and it is therein that collection.nml pulls the absolute paths for all cells.

in traktor 3 and earlier, you COULD export the remix set with audio included into the .trak. In traktor 4, you can’t.

In traktor 3, if a cell’s file’s absolute path was broken, the whole remix set was broken. In traktor 4, if a cell’s file’s path breaks, that 1 sample disappears from the remix set (but would reappear later if you relocate that file).

Are you suggesting that i load the .trak file somehow into the deck, as opposed to choosing the remix set entry from the browser tree? I don't think that's what you meant, however i tried dragging the .trak file and couldn't; also tried exploring for it in the browser tree and Traktor couldn't "see" the file. So i believe the Remix Set is already tied to the .trak file.

Interesting.

Importing a .TRAK file will also import the exported samples of the remix decks as new samples (no matter their name), which will be referenced in the (re)-imported (and new, no matter the name) remix set.

I always exported much used remix sets in the past and re-imported them just so that they use a separate set of samples. This is to avoid having several remix set loose samples without warning just because i deleted a short snippet somewhere that i accidentally ID'd as trash.

Not sure that’s all correct, mate.

I’m using TP3, and importing Remix Sets, definitely includes the audio files, even if they’ve been moved.

You have to empty the Remix Deck (or load a different Remix Set) before importing from the .trak file.

Otherwise, how could you use a Remix Set that you’d downloaded?

I believe you are mixing up exported remix sets (your creation) vs. Traktor Paks (N.I.'s creation). My understanding is: Both use .trak extension. The former no longer includes audio inside of the .trak file - it USED TO in Traktor 3. When we export them now, it's merely a way of backing it up. If you backup your playlists, you'll still need your working collection.nml and music files to "use" the playlists. Same with the remix set. The remix set requires your collection.nml and the music files contained in the remix set. However, if you accidentally deleted the remix set, or messed it up and saved it mid-set, you'll be glad to have backed it up prior.

When you download a Traktor Pak, inside the .trak file are all of the media files, and when you import in Traktor, the media files are scanned and are part of your library now as samples in those cells.

But if I shared my remix set with you, my guess is that you'd be importing a set that is missing all of its media files. Can we try? I am curious.

I believe that everything you said is correct, if using Traktor 3. It no longer works like that, i don't think. In Traktor 3 you had the option of including the media in the export. You no longer have that option In Traktor 4. I believe this change in 4 is a good one, because in 3, if a sample/cell went missing, the whole set went under. Therefore, more imperative to tie the samples with the set. In TP4, if a cell goes missing, just that cell is missing (as would be appropriate). I've been wrong before but this is what I believe is true.

I only use Traktor 3, mate. I doubt that a Remix Set created in Traktor 4 would be compatible with Traktor 3. ☹️ (Unfortunately).
