Time flies quickly, but I can't help but ask, when will Reaktor7 come?
You make a reasonable point. Still it doesn't really curb my own self doubts much. I really have to take the approach of "wait and see" while I just avoid using it on any significant projects until I've had official word.
Do you have any ooficial word on any SW by any SW company? I strongly doubt there will be any official word on Reaktor by NI.
The reasonable and strong "word" is, that Reaktor has been ported to Apple Silicon. Huge effort and investment in future by NI. It is better proof of NI intents than thousands of words.
I don't see them ever abandoning Reaktor, they have far too many products relying on it. Most expansions have presets for reaktor instruments and Maschine relies heavily on it. Just because they have prioritized development on other platforms it doesn't mean Reaktor is abandoned, I think they will maintain it for a long time…
The guy literally shows how to build zdf filters , so that's pretty low level no ?

Try doing that with reaktor primary :) Reaktor core has around 30 modules , a.f.the same amount for logic and math and the bulk of dsp is done with these modules , and the other modules are indeed equivalent to reaktopr primary but quality wise a few notches above Just try it out , it's amazing , the included modules are of stellar quality and are actually protyped in alpha forever but then compiled for better cpu usage , which reaktor does automatically in core
quote
Every node added to Alpha Forever in the last 2 years was built in Alpha Forever first (even the filters) and was prototyped there (I used these nodes in my music, and replaced them when they got compiled). The only difference to the compiled version is CPU usage (this makes a huge difference).

The guy ( actually 2 brothers ) is superhelpfull and nice , always listening and best of all it's an active project
So is this compilation process something that is part of the app, or is it a hidden thing that only the devs have access to?
Is there an open source API for 3rd party users to build their own optimised DSP objects in C++ and use them in the structure?
Without access to optimised low level coding, it is useless to me. Reaktor provides that with core.
You can use lua
Is that embedded in the app?
yes , but you need an external text editor

Reaktor is one of the GOATs, all because of the amazing user library. What a sad day it would be to see NI abandon the 20+ years of customer investment, and the thousands of awesome and bizarre devices that were born from it. I would be overjoyed if they simply added a few quality of life updates: better search function and library management, automatic stereo connections, a “replace” feature to easily swap instruments and macros, etc. But the blind pursuit of profit and growth seems to be pushing NI into the production of smut.
Correct. They will bugfix it the same way they do FM8 and Massive, for these same reasons, and maintain compatibility with new OSes.
REAKTOR is in maintenance mode, and kept around because a lot of their content depends on it.
If that wasn't the case, I'm pretty confident they would have discontinued REAKTOR, MASSIVE and FM8 along with Absynth 5.
They've basically stopped developing REAKTOR Ensembles and now develop Play Series libraries for KONTAKT, instead.
REAKTOR is more of a development tool than a production tool. It is like giving someone MATLAB when they ask for a Graphing Calculator.
I think these tools are great when integrated and used as a means of developing devices for and extending the functionality of DAWs - as is done with Ableton Live (Max4Live) and Bitwig Studio (The Grid). It's a weird placement for a standalone product, though.
Most people looking into REAKTOR are probably looking for something more along the lines of HALion or Falcon, so they don't give it much attention after they realize what it is.
REAKTOR Blocks was an attempt to shift that, but it never really took off (nor did their attempts to build a commercial NKS ecosystem on top of it with 3rd party developers).
I feel like REAKTOR 6 was a real last ditch effort to build ecosystem around the product to justify further development. When that didn't happen, it was put on ice - and remains so.
The reality is you don't know whether it's actively developed or not, so what you believe is what you believe. That's all. It's true there isn't a strong case for a v7 either, but that just makes it indeterminate and is not a proof for it never coming. One can believe what one does, of course. The release of Battery 4.3.1* on 2025-01-09 after your post including bug fixes as well as the announcement of new Reaktor instruments getting developed**, indicates what you believe doesn't matter, and it's the market for its products NI caters for, not for doom-dreamers like yourself. Granted, if you feel a need for features, I feel you, but I don't really see the need for this. I would welcome a v7, but I don't feel Reaktor is dead if this isn't realized. Except for Reaktor, including such wishes even if I don't have them, I don't really see why a mature product would need more than bug fixes and compatibility updates. That type of product is completed in many ways. "Dead" products don't receive even such updates, though some of those titles just keep getting used despite flaws. This is not something I want for Reaktor. What is actually needed for a mature product like Reaktor is stability, security, and usability. I can live with just bug fixes and compatibility updates myself. Others may want more from it. Many don't even know what one can do with it.* Of course, this still keeps v4 of Battery as a failure. Nothing new there.** "active development" really takes place inside Reaktor. A more healthy discussion would be about the state of that.
The real reality is that NI themselves have said that those products are not actively developed anymore. This has been quoted many times in this thread. It’s not what I believe - it’s what we’ve been told by NI on several occasions.
This does not preclude bug fixes or maintenance updates (compatibility, etc.).
You can of course choose to be a dreamer and ignore official NI position on this matter.
I prefer to have realistic approach - it saves me from a lot of disappointments.
You do you 😉
The only things that have been established is that Georg (having some connection to Reaktor development) said in January 2023 "there will be no new features implemented" and that NI wasn't "in a position to invest major resources" at the time, but also making clear there was (is?) a small development team at the time doing important work. These days developers may work on many projects with specific goals. No-one has said this will always be like that with Reaktor for all time, which is what you seem to believe. NI keeps using Reaktor they way it's supposed to be used, making instruments. That's both active development, and if successful could lead to small advancements. Likely? That would depend on internal processes and needs, and also on how those translates to the customer base. This may all stay this way, getting internal development use, compatibility updates, and hopefully bug fixes, maybe even small but important improvements. Given success with the coming new instruments that could change. Also, any maintenance mode can go on for a very long time. This may not happen, of course, but cannot be ruled out, Why are you afraid of disappointments? I don't get it. Realism is to acknowledge what is there and not put your own fears or wishes into it. That's all. That you imply I wish is false. I'm not a believer in that "Reaktor 7 is coming" just because I don't share your position. I also have no proclivity for reading tea leaves. What is there is there, but we don't know everything. Things have a tendency to also change in ways that are hard to predict.
Personally I do not believe in just “accepting” anything - reality is a 2 way street, there is the ‘reality’ NI seem to want people to accept but we users dont have to just meekly accept what we are given and just as I have always refused to fully give up on Absynth, I feel the same about Reaktor. NI made a huge mistake dropping Absynth and will be making an even bigger one if they drop Reaktor.
It’s OK, guys. There’s really no harm in different opinions on an internet forum - we can agree to disagree on the subject of prospective Reaktor 7.
