CPU efficiency in latest M+ update

In the latest Maschine+ updates, they mention improved CPU efficiency, but my experience is different — for example, the Performance FX seem heavier on the CPU, especially Filter and Burst Echo. Most of my projects also look more demanding on the CPU. What’s your experience?

Previously, my CPU usage was usually around 50–60%, but now it’s closer to 80%, and I’m getting CPU warnings much more often. My music is mostly sample-based and quite simple, since it’s just old-school house/electronica. I can’t imagine what it must feel like for people who want to use more complex projects with more VSTs…

same goes for me, pretty much a sample based workflow. i also use mostly internal FX and not the heavy VSTs.

I think what they mean is, because Maschine 3 uses more resources than before, they improved efficiency to enable it to run better than it would have done without some tuning.

TL;DR they improved efficiency to enable Maschine 3 to run, not to make Maschine 3 faster than Maschine 2.

Yeah, that must be the case — but honestly, running just a few audio plugins with loops and some FX while already hitting 80–85% CPU usage is pretty crazy. Of course, I’ll adapt and squeeze myself even more (haha) to be able to play my projects on it. But still, it feels like this hardware is too old for Maschine 3 software. Maybe they’ll optimize it further somehow. I don’t know, but I have HUGE respect for them for making this possible at all — I bet it was a real challenge and a lot of work.

That's why they introduced the Bounce thing as well - because there's a limit to what the M+ can do. Some stuff (e.g. Audio plugin time stretching) was already CPU hungry, even on Maschine 2.

We just need to bear in mind the compromises that come with the convenience of having a standalone Maschine. With less power comes great responsibility (or something like that) 🤣
