π 1. Locate the User Data on Your Old Computer
For Absynth and FM8, favorites and user presets are usually stored in specific folders, not inside the Native Access app.
On macOS:
cssCopyEdit~/Documents/Native Instruments/[FM8 or Absynth]/
On Windows:
makefileCopyEditC:\Users\[Your Username]\Documents\Native Instruments\[FM8 or Absynth]\
These folders typically include:
- Favorites Database
- User Presets
- Tagged Sounds (Favorites metadata)
These folders may be named something like:
Favorites.db3
(for favorites database)User Sounds
orUser Library
.nksf
preset files or foldersπ€ 2. Back Up These Folders
Copy the entire folder:
swiftCopyEditDocuments/Native Instruments/FM8/Documents/Native Instruments/Absynth/
Put them on a USB drive or cloud storage.
π» 3. Transfer to the New Computer
On your new computer, install FM8 and/or Absynth using Native Access. Run them once to initialize default folders.
Then replace the default folders with the ones you backed up:
On macOS:
javascriptCopyEditReplace: ~/Documents/Native Instruments/FM8/ ~/Documents/Native Instruments/Absynth/
On Windows:
mathematicaCopyEditReplace: C:\Users\[Your Username]\Documents\Native Instruments\FM8\ C:\Users\[Your Username]\Documents\Native Instruments\Absynth\
If prompted, allow overwriting files.
π 4. Restart the Plug-ins
Now, when you launch FM8 or Absynth in your DAW or standalone, your favorites, tags, and user presets should appear as they did before.
β Pro Tips
- cssCopyEdit~/Documents/Native Instruments/Shared Content/
- Make sure the file paths are consistent or updated in the pluginβs settings if needed.

The Favourites folder for Absynth and FM8 resides in the same place as User Sounds - both are in your user documents folder/native instruments/plugin name - you need to copy over the whole folder to your system. However you will probably also need to move the samples folder for Absynth (the path for that is user customisable and set in Absynth options)

Thanks a lot for this detailed information - that helped! I was not aware where the files are located because there is no option to open a path in finder (or win explorer). I will just copy them manuallyβ¦.
