Version 3.3.3 Komplete Kontrol

Windows 11 Home version 23H2

Asus Tuf Gaming A15 laptop

AMD Ryzen 7 4800H with Radeon Graphics 2.90 GHz

Memory, 16.0 GB (15.4 GB usable)

External Hard Drive, Western Digital 5TB Elements, USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5gbps) purchased Jan 2024 and has 1 of 5 TB used (4tb free space). NI software is the only data on this drive. Drive is dedicated exclusively to NI use.

Komplete Kontrol stored on my laptop's internal hard drive. All my instruments and sounds are on the noted external hard drive. KK freezes on the loading screen where it says, "Waiting for product scan." KK WILL WORK IF I UNPLUG THE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE, therefore I must assume the issue is directly linked with said drive.

Things I've tried to resolve the issue with no success:

-Verified Western Digital hard drive software is loaded properly. (As I write this, I realize I didn't go check for updates to this software which I will do now. Also, I could check for firmware updates.)

-Verified the data on the ext hard drive is usable by running Kontact and Kontrol Access. Data can be read and also used with my S88.

-Update Windows to latest version and anything else from the Windows updater

-Shut down any browsers, VPN, and cloud services during the loading attempt in case KK is trying to talk to external sources

-Let it load for over 8 hours multiple times.

-Try plugging ext drive into 3 optional laptop usb ports and also a usb hub.

-update every last Native Instruments software.

-Refer to 3 similar posted forum issues. (1 user resolved this issue by updating all Native Instruments software, and the 2nd user resolved by buying a new hard drive. 3rd user let KK load for over 2 hours and it finally loaded.)

-Turning the computer off and on again….many times.

Things I know I could try but am trying to avoid:

-Purchasing a new external hard drive.

5tb WD Elements HD drivers, firmware and software are all up to date and operational. I don't see any other avenue of approach at this point. NI apparently won't play nice with WD Elements HDDs. Anyone see any other possibilities?

I'm wondering if the way the drive was formatted is a problem. Sometimes that can be the limitation if it's and older form of formatting on high capacity drives. You might want to examine the recommendations from WD on partitioning and formatting. I only know this from several years ago when I was still using HDDs. I've been on SSDs for so long now that I don't remember exactly the limitations and what they were.

    Hello,

Could it be the speed having something to do with it. DO you know what speed that drive is? Anything below 7,200rpm Id guess is going to be too slow. With some brands/products they don't like to disclose what the speeds are for obvious reasons. These days you'd be much better off getting an external SSD such as the popular Samsung T7 or whatever is a later model. Ive had zero problems with mine. 2TB model is great. I'm able to keep a good chunk of free space which is a good thing to do.

Issue with KK (Komplete Kontrol): "Waiting for product scan...".

same thing here - worked fine before update. now i get this. just pure aggravation with no obvious fix - uninstalled - re installed - etc. tried it all as other stated - just doesn't work - and seemingly no answer for any of us …

So at least you filled in "Windows" in your profile, however would be useful to know if you are Win10/11 as well as what version was working and what version you have installed now. Also, what version of Komplete kontrol keyboard do you have because maybe if stability and reliability is more important than the latest GUI, the option of reverting back to the older 2.9.6 version like many of us have will alleviate the constant emerging issues with each version.

Usually the product scan failure is either a plugin is not scanning correctly tho it normally stops on that plugin and shows this in the popup window or the plugin scan service is not launching. The latter seems to be the case for some where that process is not being launched after an update. Maybe a mod can spend their time to find some answers for you.

or the plugin scan service is not launching

I think that is what is happening and it seems to be mainly on Windows.

However I make a report recently after this happened to me once on my Mac - I opened activity monitor and could see the new NI plugin info app was not initialising - but the issue did not persist after a reboot and I’ve not seen it since
