Hey everyone,

We’ve just released Session Percussionist v1.0.1.

What’s new?
This update cleans up some old behind-the-scenes code that won’t be supported in the upcoming Kontakt 8.4 (coming mid-May). Don’t worry, it doesn’t change how the instrument sounds or plays.

Why update now?
If you install Kontakt 8.4 before updating Session Percussionist, the XY pad on the mixer page might not work properly. Everything else in the instrument will still work as expected.

What should I do?
Easy! Just download the latest version of Session Percussionist (v1.0.1) and you’re good to go. No issues, no interruptions.

Thanks for being part of the community and making music with us!

Just a suggestion for Session Percussionist: it would be great to have an empty patch available. I found a workaround thanks to the community, but having a built-in option would be really helpful.

    INIT patch should be standard.

Still waiting for Kontakt 8 to have a working MIDI CC editor again. The drag and drop CC assign do not work on new Kontakt 8 instrument (you are forced to use the Learn button which is not optimal and much slower). New instruments also need better support for MIDI CC with different interaction objects like menus (i.e. Claire mic drop down menu do not support MIDI CC).

An updated MIDI CC editor in Kontakt 8 should also have a copy and paste system to quickly assign same Midi CC settings on similar instances in your DAW template. Currently in older Kontakt you had to drag and drop assign on each instance manually.

We also need to see a proper Migrate button in Native Access to clear up UX when moving to a newer version of Kontakt. Why not add this for Kontakt 7 to Kontakt 8 so it is ready for Kontakt 9 in about 3 years.

How is this going to impact on backwards compatibility with older Kontakt instruments that are not likely to get updated to ‘clean up’ the code?

This is my concern. Will installing this impact users of Kontakt 7?

me and @PoorFellow tried to find it, the only solution he found was to basically pick a preset, delete all the instruments and save it as a user patch or a user kontakt preset. (unless I'm wrong)

it works but I think is better to have an INIT patch

Yes agree, when I build my templates and add instances of instruments without a specific sound in mind, before I disable the track, it is nice to have an INIT Patch selected. Simple thing to add to all NI instruments for the ones still lacking the preset.

As of 2025, Kontakt is on a frequent release cadence.

We aim to release every ~6 or so weeks; although not every release may be public, and we release far more frequently to beta.

This enables us to respond more quickly with support and maintenance requests, all while iterating towards more substantial features/requests.

    Kontakt 8.2, February 12th

    – over 50 bug fixes and improvements, plus some feature additions for Players (those who load instruments built by others) and Builders (those who build with Kontakt) alike

    Kontakt 8.3, March 31st

    – 10 fixes and improvements, plus some big new feature additions for Builders

    Kontakt 8.4, mid May

    – Approximately 24 fixes and improvements, and again some big new features for Builders

As such, you can expect continued, sustained, and frequent support. But we won't be dropping massive new features with every frequent release. Where there are new features coming in at the moment, they're focussed on those who use Kontakt to build instruments, rather than load and play instruments built by others.

If Kontakt 8's feature-set has not convinced you to upgrade thus far, nothing much is changing in 8.4 in that regard. It's just a lot more performant and stable, more so with every update. And it's also faster than Kontakt 7 (note that we did backport some performance improvements to Kontakt 7.10.7 after the release of Kontakt 8).

Is anyone who uses this experiencing a bug where all output will just drop out until disabling/re-enabling or reloading? This happens to me frequently in any project I use it in Cubase, and its the only NI product that's ever done this.

Also, while we're on the subject….would be really nice if CC11 was implemented somehow, or some other way to control volume. The modwheel controls speed on a lot of rolls, which is nice, but often I want a high speed but with a swell, and thats very hard to program.
