India Collection Compatibility

Hi - I'm really interested in buying the India Collection from NI, which is advertised as being compatible with the free Kontakt player.

However, ChatGPT (not always reliable) tells me that many NI libraries that are advertised as being compatible with the free player actually have limitations in terms of sound and time-limitations.

Is this true, or can it be run with no limitations in the free player.

All of Native Instruments Kontakt libraries only require Kontakt Player. The features mentioned with a time limit are for modifying the instruments, or how to make your own Kontakt instruments. For a basic use of the instruments there is no limit. It's written quite clearly here, in the sytem requirements:

In general all NI expansions and all licensed non-NI expansions run with Player. There a various products that haven't been licensed by NI that need the full version, but with anything from NI you should be ok with the player. Also, if you check the requirements on the NI site you'll find it says "full Kontakt or Player" for the India Spotlight collection at the bottom of this page in the "at a glance" section - https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/spotlight-collection/india/

Thank you - that's helpful. It does say "Free KONTAKT PLAYER or KONTAKT" but ChatGPT said that even though it says that, there may be limitations with the free player. Is that possible?

Regarding general limitations, check out this comparison table (or the Player manual):

Notably, you cannot use non-Player libraries (unlicensed and some third-party ones) in Kontakt Player. Extensive instrument editing is also time-limited in Demo mode.

India will work fine in it. You might just miss things like routing options.

Thank you. I see that there's a 15 minute limit for some features. Are these separate from the instruments or does it limit uninterrupted access to the libraries?
