The Usual Suspects NKS

Does anybody have the mid.json file for the Nord Lead 2X factory bank (the one with 40 sounds) to get the names of these presets to show?
Whilst all of the other banks appear identical to the Nord Lead 1, the factory presets for the 2 seem to differ somewhat. Also the patches that are the same have a noticeably higher output volume for me with the Lead 1 presets. The first patch for example is identical, but as you start to scroll you will begin to notice differences. Or is it just me?

At this moment, I think there are two files, I am not sure if they are the same. One in Suborn's upload and one in mine. Here are two. I think that the bank is named internal and is available at the nord site (you might have to use wayback machine/Internet Archive). I didn't check the volumes.

I wouldn't waste more time on such insignificant things mate, when there are a lot of much more interesting banks to convert.
The fact is (and i have explained it at least 2-3 times on previous comments!):
Nord 1, Nord 2 and Nord 2x are 3 different things,
however, on Nord 1 and Nord 2 most things are identical and really does not worth to deal with, just because they might sound to you louder etc. Also consider the fact that i might make .previews at 0db while JGG make then at -3 or -6
Or that i have my velocity fixed at 127 so everything sounds "louder"! 😋Bottom line is: if N bank 1 has preset 03-saw bass and N bank 2 has also preset 03-saw bass it is just the same saw bass, no matter if one might sound louder… 😉
But, to fully understand, you need to know the full story about why Nord Lead version 1 has a superior sound, while Nord Lead version 2, just louder sound… i will check my archives.

Nord Lead 1 vs Nord Lead 2 (not 2X!)
By David Hobson from "Synthesizer Freaks" Facebook group, 2011
"Worked for Sam Ash Music off and on from 1994 to 1998 in Lyndhurst, Ohio (I would take long sabbaticals.) I bought my Nord Lead 1 there at a discount since I was the keyboard department answer man (Warren Harris, aka 'Hanna' and I were the Keyboard department team for a space.)
When the Nord Lead 2 hit the market two years later we both sat down in the mixer/monitor booth and listened to the Nord Lead 2.Warren and I looked at each other and wondered what the heck happened to the sound that people were calling 'magical' in electronic music/keyboard magazines!
Warren suggested we call Clavia in Sweden, and so I did; and back then you could call just about anyone and even speak to the designers... unbelievable, right? Wrong. It was common place seeing that we had a direct line to most synth companies at that time. I still have that old book of numbers.
I called Clavia and my call did not go to some receptionist, but directly to Hans Nordelius... *as I recall*; because I could not make out how he pronounced his name. Regardless, the guy was definitely in charge, and was either Hans Nordelius or Mikael Carlsson. You see, at that time there was no enormous, impenetrable Clavia fortress.
I identified myself and my store and he asked me how the sales were going at Sam Ash. I then immediately asked him about the Nord 1, and the Nord 2; and what the heck happened to the sound.
He very nicely explained that there was a substantial and necessary change to the audio engine in the Nord Lead 2 because Peter 'Pelle' Jubel left Clavia to start up what became Propellerheads, and they could not use most of his audio engine designs due to 'licensing', in his words.
Not only this, but Peter 'Pelle' Jubel and the other two team members which comprised the design team of Reason went on to win the 2002 MIPA because of Peter Jubel's groundbreaking processing design work which he took with him even before the Nord Lead 1 was released in 1995. Actually, he designed the audio engine and almost everything board-level back in late 92 according to the recollection of person on the other end of the phone. Now, people have been going back and forth since then about the DAC's, and the so-called OP amp differences for years (lol), and things most people don't care about... all of this talk without actually pushing for more information. And I began to question myself AND my memory of my phone call to Clavia in 1997 knowing that synth pros like Mark Vail did not really get into detail about these things. So...
I phoned Sweden almost exactly a month ago at 5am EST (USA time) and spoke with Johan Eckerblad, the hardware service manager at Clavia for the past 7 years. He not only confirmed everything I remembered from 1995, but he also gave me more insight into what is important to people like Johan, me, and individuals who live for the minutia of synthesizers.
Johan Eckerblad informed me that several individuals had called him from time to time from the States and Europe about this very topic, and that they had a Nord Lead 1 in the Clavia studio that he did a careful analysis of against the sound of the other Nord Leads relevant to the Nord Lead family in question. Johan did not hesitate to explain the very different audio engine designs of the Nord Lead 1 and the consecutive Nord Leads.
We then spoke about board-level repair issues seeing that I've been trying to obtain a service manual (schematics) for the Nord Lead 1 for years; and now I am studying analog and digital circuit repair, and will be studying in New York beginning in May. I own a Nord Lead 1, and I want to repair Nords when I begin to take on more work. Unfortunately, Johan informed me there was no service manual, but that I would have to call him for real-time troubleshooting if and when I needed to repair a Nord Lead 1. He also recommended a nice fellow in California who has to do the same; Call Johan for board level repair questions.
So not only are the DACs different in the Nord 1, but the whole sound engine is different! …plus a few other bits I’d rather let people find out for themselves.
If anyone wishes to dispute these facts, just pick up the phone, call Sweden, and ask to speak with Johan Eckerblad in Hardware. The Phone number to Clavia is on their website. (Make sure to tell them you are a technician…the woman on the phone is very strict…)"0 -
Thanks for both responses, though my request was not actually NKS related, but rather for the standalone. I think the 1 vs 2 comparison @Sunborn posted is rather negligible in this instance as it was specifically a matter of process as I have all of the other default factory banks mid.json, so am able to identify all of the sounds. I am not really concerned with which are better personally.
I will have a dig online as it is not far fetched that one may be floating around.

Not really up on these things or if there are simpler online methods to do these things, but something like this would be useful. If only I could make sense of it of course….

The only meaningful way to see if 2 synthesizer sounds are the same is to check OSC, Filter, LFO and Envelope parameters (assuming that no FX are involved). If those parameters have the same values, then the sounds are the same, no matter if sound louder or weaker. If the above values are different, then we have a different sound, even if it sounds "same" in our ears. :-)

I hear you though I was really saying some sounds are literally different presets. The ones that are the same just had a different velocity output, which could be something related to the hardware models or something I guess.
I digress anyway, my bad. I will explore on the discord about this.
Ah yes.. I just read the sound parameters were mapped slightly different on the 2, hence why people talk about it sounding softer or less aggressive and why those patches sounded quieter.

I think most of the 40 sounds in the Lead 2 factory bank are pretty much the same as in Lead 1 albeit muddled up a bit. I cannot find the corresponding preset for this 0.01 patch pictured below in the Lead 1 factory though, so either it is an intentional thing or a corrupted file, or could mean one of the presets at least is missing or has been doctored. Doesn't strike me a necessarily a factory preset in terms of its sound design, but I could be missing something (would be the first time). :)

A few more json files I salvaged online. Some Synth hit Wonders and Andy Vax banks plus NL2 banks 1 to 4. Still didn't find the 40 standard factory ones though. I think these could probably be saved individually and worked out somehow given there are only 40. Props to the man I only know as cd, for these.
A few names missing in NL2 bank 1, still retaining numbers. Think most are in order however.

NodalRed2x - Martian Soundset & Synth Hit Wonders Banks NKS
2 more banks for our newly beloved beast. 😊
With previews and fully tagged.
I also included their .json files so you can see the actual names, instead of meaningless numbers.
@Diam your above post, very useful, thank you! However, the guy who made the Synth Hit Wonders, probably made them over a decade ago and the result (for this bank only) was not good enough for me. There is no need for short (aka MS-DOS) names anymore. Also this is a special bank which includes top hits of the 80's so, it's important (for the new users mostly) to know which tracks they are. So, i remade it! 😉
Download here
Enjoy! 🥂

Here is a skin I made based on a user upload shared on Discord. I basically replaced all of the fonts for something slightly more aligned with the HW 2x and fixed some of the broken elements, i.e. edited the .json as the sensitivity knobs graphics had not been updated to compensate for the relocated knob controls on the lower panel. I found it less busy on my eyes. I am unable to make any revisions as I moved on from this design, but hope it will be helpful for some of you.
Again kudos to the user wolverine for his edits on the button graphics and fixed LEDs.
