NI Marketing - get out of my session!
I'm here writing, instead of scoring a film, because all of a sudden when I open an instance of Komplete Kontrol to adjust an instrument I'm hit with a distracting popup that's trying to sell me a Kontakt 8 upgrade, and it's completely interrupting my flow state. As if the incessant email marketing wasn't enough? Get your marketing dept out of my session!

The great majority of Kontakt users (and Komplete users, too) never ever come to the forums, and might never go to the website. Me, I'm awful about reading emails; I figure there's plenty of time to read email after I'm dead.
So having that option turned on might MIGHT not be "marketing". It could just be a genuine attempt on NI's part to keep you informed.
Not everything that annoys you is being done to annoy you ON PURPOSE, okay?

All right, now that we got that out of the way, you can stop that prompt very easily and get back to scoring your film.
Okay, here's what you need to do:
- Open Kontakt 7 standalone (that means outside of your DAW or any other host)
- Dismiss the prompt (and try not to let your blood pressure pop)
- Go to File > Options > Interface
- Look at the very last option. It says 'Enable "New Products for You" Panel', and it will be checked (bright box). Uncheck it.
- Close Kontakt 7 standalone.
Now get back to scoring, your break time is over and you've been slacking off dismissing all these dialogs! 😏
Oh, and when you finally decide to upgrade to Kontakt 8, and if you don't want that message to pop up when Kontakt 9 comes out, then you will definitely want to do the above steps all over again. Because the same option is there in K8 and yes, it will be checked.
It can't hurt you, so stop letting it hurt you. Calm down, take action, then go back to scoring, and have a great day.

I can guarantee the best way to avoid NI malarkey is to not use the product.
Cheers

Although I don’t agree with these downvotes too, they probably come from the “it’s not marketing, it’s to keep you informed” part.
And I do agree this should not happen when using your products (and it doesn’t matter if it can be turned off…it shouldn’t be there…even because you say that turning it off doesn’t even work)

Thank you. THIS is exactly why I provide information…we never know how many people might come along later and get here by way of a search for the same problem THEY are having. I'm happy to help.
^ This is an example of "not helping". I try very hard to not be "that guy" who just bee-eye-itches over and over again without offering something of value.
Thank you for your objective view. I agree, people got their panties in a bunch because I said something they didn't like. As a society, we're rapidly losing our sense of nuance.
The fact is, WE DON'T KNOW why the decision was made to add that "hey, there's a new version!" to Kontakt. We don't know, unless we were in the meeting when that decision was made. Was it a dumb decision to interfere with the end-user's work? Sure, probably. I didn't think I HAD to pay that penance and say it out loud.
But I've been a manager and a technician. Over the years, I've learned that sometimes you need to make a decision, so that the team can start moving forward on that thing. Sometimes the decision gets made FOR you, and you have no control. You're still going to be thrown under the bus, so get ready for the throwing!
So I go back to my prior point: WE DON'T KNOW why the decision was made. We don't know if it was genuinely an attempt to let the user know he's on an older version of Kontakt, or if it's just marketing dogma that came from leadership (or the leadership of the company that owns NI). WE. JUST. DON'T. KNOW.
And in my prior post, I wasn't going into that. I wanted to help the OP, but I also wanted to be fair to Native Instruments' teams and leaders. At least it was only two downvotes, haha. THIS response will probably get even more downvotes, which pretty much proves that the more you try to explain yourself, the worse you are judged. Seriously…want to bet me? I say nobody will apologize for leaping to conclusions, haha! 😏
I'm not going to be discouraged by people who don't "get" my nuance (I didn't say anything wrong, rude, or mean-spirited when I said that it "could" be an honest attempt to notify the end-user). I'm just going to be who I am and keep trying to help.
Happy New Year to all!

We're buying a license to give us the right to use their software, in multiple ways. If you read all the fine print in their TOS, license agreement, any legal document attached, they can and will use any form of marketing they feel necessary for their business. Sure, it might be a little annoying to me, but I basically understand the tradeoffs of using their software. Like others have said, if you don't like it, don't buy or use their software. Plain and simple. Drama tags off

Gee, maybe it's the smarmy, know-it-all, "calmer than you are" tone and unnecessary personal attacks? Which is why I have him on /ignore.

I understand your sentiment, but I disagree that this is at all an appropriate location for the notification.
At it's heart, Kontakt is a tool for professionals, and a more relevant place for this notification to be would have been through Native-Access where one handles updates… which is what the notification is about.
Placing the notification directly into Kontakt (and more egregiously based on a setting that isn't even visible if one uses Komplete Kontrol) is counter to the product's purpose. If spending money on a project to get things done with this professional tool, one shouldn't have that time-is-money be wasted with this type of notification, more-so when the notification appears in every instance of a Kontakt library being opened (in the case of Komplete Kontrol).
This should have remained in Native Access and never touched the interface of the product.

Well, actually Bif ole buddy, My advice is very actually helpful!
Look at the top posts on the forum under Native access. (See headings below) These are all posts with people having issues. These issues should not exist. some of these issues have been here for a very long time. Name me one other vendor out there that has this amount of chaos in their product and/or forum
This is under Native access alone. The list grows exponentially as you drill into the other categories, or go past the first page.
Again, if you don't want to deal with NI malarkey, simply don't use it
