Is it normal to be forced to buy the bundle for a software update?

Hello everyone,

I own a Maschine+ and would like to upgrade the Maschine 3 software for €29, but the only available option is to purchase the upgrade as a bundle, which includes the Maschine Central sample pack for €69.

I contacted support to ask if it was possible to update only the Maschine 3 software without the sample pack, but I was told that it isn't an option.

This feels like a form of forced selling, as I have no interest in the sample pack and only want the software update.

Is this a standard practice? Has anyone else experienced this?

Thank you for your insights!

Sounds as a misunderstanding to me.

Can you buy the Maschine 3 software (€69 update) (€99 Full) without a sample pack ? No , because the Maschine 3 software comes with Maschine Central, plus additional software: Ozone Elements 11, Massive, Monark, Reaktor Prism.

Can you buy "Maschine 3 Software Update" (€29), sure ! , if you qualify that is : Update-only version for Maschine 2 users. Comes without the new Maschine Central library and additional software package

So be sure that you are logged into the correct account then go to the MY PRODUCTS, SERIALS, AND DOWNLOADS page , then check that you have the Maschine 2 software on your account , then be logged in on the shop page also and then if you qualify then you should be able to buy the "Maschine 3 Software Update" (€29) without the Maschine Central Library.

If you qualify and it doesn't work then get N.I. Purchase Support to fix the problem for you , tell them that you qualify and why you qualify and then tell them that you want to buy the Update version only and then let them handle it They should then fix the problem for you or tell you why you do not qualify.

@eriser I reached out to my colleague, he should have got back to you. I'm not sure what happened here and why this glitch happened, we have seen such cases yet.

That doesn't sound right. If I look here

    https://www.native-instruments.com/en/catalog/software/maschine-software/

I can see three choices. The software alone, the library alone, and the bundle.

(assuming you mean upgrade TO Maschine 3, as there's no upgrade OF it)

I updated without the Maschine 3 Central, since I already own most of the expansions that I want/need. So, you can do it… Maschine 3 update alone is $29, update with Maschine Central is $69, and Full install (initial) is $99. If you want to purchase Central at a later time, just pay the remainder, $49.

That's what I thought, no, I'm not mistaken (attached are the screenshots of my NI account, the online store, and my communication with NI support). So, to continue receiving software support, I am forced to buy a sample pack that I don't want.

I've owned the Maschine Micro, Maschine MK3, Maschine JAM, and Maschine Plus. When I had the Maschine Micro, I paid to upgrade from Maschine 1 to Maschine 2. In total, I've ended up paying for the Maschine license five times!

I think it's fair to pay for version 3, but being forced to buy the bundle feels unacceptable !

If you have a Maschine 2 software license, you can surely buy the upgrade. That's what many people have done since the release of Maschine 3.

Jeremy_NI can not fix such things himself , but he can get someone from support to take a look at the issue(s)

    P.S.

With respect to 'updates' and upgrades then at N.I. then from what I know then it usually also works in the way that if you have already used the product as base for an update/upgrade then you can apparently not use same product for more upgrades or updates but you can use the product that you updated to as base of further update/upgrade. But as far as I can see then you ought to qualify for using the update from Maschine 2 to Maschine 3.

Regrdless of what you did with your old Maschine controllers, M+ ships with a licence for Maschine 2 desktop. Therefore, you should have Maschine 2 licence and therefore be eligible for the 29€ M3 app only upgrade

Just for verify - you do know that Maschine Central expansion also works on the M+ standalone? So you would be able to use the bundled sounds on M+ as well, even though it only runs Maschine 2 software at the moment..
