I'm not sure what you mean here. Maschine 3 is a software, or you mean the Maschine MK3 controller? The Maschine MK3 has inputs and outputs so you could connect a hardware compressor. What are you trying to achieve exactly?

I guess it could but that would induce some latency. To have a hardware effect unit as an insert in a software means analog to digital and digital to analog convertion.

With Maschine 3.0's support for 16 stereo inputs and outputs, it would be nice to have a dedicated I/O effect insert. This feature and better integration with Kontrol Mk3 would get me to use Maschine in standalone more.

    Let me explain:
    Maschine 3 Software
External audio card with analog inputs and outputs connected to a physical compressor.
Can it be configured to have the compressor as an insert?

Maschine does not have anything like an "external instrument" in Ableton or the like.. Maschine also doesnt have PDC. So anything you output from Maschine and (re)sample back in will be delayed by the RTL of your audio interface at its current settings (samplerate/buffer size etc)
