Is it safe to upgrade KK2.9 to KK3 now?

Without Drag and Drop from the KK browser, there is no point to even care about KK3 unless you need it for NI Hardware (S Series MK3, namely).
Otherwise, stay on v2.9.

You can uninstall v3.3 and install v2.9.
I also think you can downgrade without uninstalling. The Installer (on Windows, at least) will ask you if you want to downgrade. After clicking yes, it will uninstall v3.3 before installing 2.9.

If you're someone who uses drag and drop.

Most people will use Drag and Drop unless they are only loading Expansion Content as Battery 4 Kits (in Battery 4) or Maschine Groups in those plug-ins.
If you don't use a Native Instruments keyboard controller, there is really no other reason to load the Komplete Kontrol plug-in. The whole point of it in those scenarios is the browser, since the plug-in as a host for other plug-ins you can otherwise host directly is a waste of RAM and CPU and an unnecessary point of potential failure in terms of overall session stability.
It's like using XLN XO or Waves Cosmos without the ability to drag and drop to the DAW arranger.
KK 3.3 makes sense where it is necessary.
Coping on "well, maybe you don't need drag and drop" does not change the fact that it brings nothing of worth to anyone who isn't forced to use it for compatibility with Komplete Kontrol MK3 controllers.
It actually reduces the usefulness of the software and the accessibility of the large content depth of the NI Expansion ecosystem, which disincentivizes people from acquiring more because they won't want to deal with a bad workflow on top of a mountain of 140k Samples and Loops.
EDIT: Censoring the word "cr.a.ppy" is very erudite /s

Let's not argue this in this thread.
@Rikk Show asked a very simple question. Is it safe to upgrade?
The answer is also very simple.
Yes… if you don't use the features mentioned above.
No… if those features are important to you, as they are to some. I know this is not popular with some repeat forum users, but those features were not widely used, and so for many people, the answer will still be yes, even if it is not yet for you.
If people want to discuss, or even rant (which is fair to do), about features important to them, then please start another thread.

Sorry, but I'm getting tired of these constant excuses, trying to rationalize bad management decisions. Yes Komplete Kontrol 3 will work, it's safe to use it if you want to downgrade your workflow. Yes there's a new pretty screen, maybe that's enough for some.
Let's not forget, that Native Instruments also claimed, that Maschine and the Komplete Kontrol MK2 we're not used together by many customers. And that's why they decided to remove the integration, which is oddly enough starting to make it's way back now, even if just basic features. That's not by accident. The loss of sales / pissed off customers indicated this in their board rooms.
That statement they pimped to the public, was simply not true at all and NI knows it.There seems to be a common theme with Native Instruments lately. When your developers can't keep up.
you guys either do the following…
A. Terminate the App/Plugin ( Kore 2 debacle ) Don't get me started.. They lost developers, and had to kill it.
B. Maschine + Komplete Kontrol ( loss of major features ) Integration with this gear was we're not important ?
C. Komplete Kontrol ( Current status of V3, loss of major workflow features ) Bank support not important ? Auditioning sounds without the need to stare at a cpu screen , Browsing Not important ? C'mon now ! None of this is a solution! The only solution is to listen to your customers concerns, as we fuel the company.
Please NI this damage control is not working, other than making it worse. We don't want to hear excuses, but rather voices of understanding, and a commitment to fix what you guys continue to break !

Native Instruments also claimed, that Maschine and the Komplete Kontrol MK2 we're not used together by many customers.
This is literally true. That it was used by thousands, not millions of users, is why it wasn't a priority. Users didn't like non-functional buttons on their hardware, and the maintenance overhead made it impossible to progress other features more users cared about. We re-implemented a basic integration on a new framework as a lower priority for the smaller audience much later than launch, because we still care about all users, even if we cannot always make everyone happy at the same time.
Per your other comment: I was not around for Kore. I have been around for Kontrol and Maschine for the last 2.5 years. In which time, the team and I have had to focus on building something for someone, rather than trying to be everything to everyone, ultimately ending up as nothing to anyone.
This isn't damage control. This is transparency. Focus is not always popular. But it is important.
Please respect my prior comment. The conversation you're trying to have is valid. Start a thread for it. Don't hijack this one.
