Massive X could not be loaded on new Mac - where is it?!

Hi everyone,

I've read a lot of posts about this issue today but just cannot resolve it! I've moved my system onto a new Mac Studio M2 Max today using Timelapse, carried out all the relevant updates etc and have eventually managed to get everything working… except Massive X, which I just can't locate. I've been given two pop-up warnings (one from Logic, one from Komplete Kontrol) and I've attached photos of both.

I've tried:
- Reinstalling Massive X and the MX Factory Library using Native Connect.
- Uninstalling it completely by deleting all references to Massive X in my Mac's library/application support.
- Giving full disk permission to everything NI and Logic related including NTKDaemon.
- Opening Logic using Rosetta.
- Accessing Massive X via Komplete Kontrol.

But non of these things have worked and I just can't locate the actual instrument; there is a Massive X folder in my library, but no instrument. There's no mention of it within Logic even though Native Connect insists it's installed.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you checked in Logic’s Plugin Manager? It’s probably failed the au scan so select it and scan it again

On the other hand if it is not there then the AU probably wasn’t installed

Hope this helps, as I went looking myself. I'm on an M1 Max MacBook Pro, running Logic Pro 11.0.1

For me, it does not show up under Komplete Kontrol or Kontakt as a module. To get it to load in Logic Pro.

Forgive me, I'm still learning logic. Don't know the name of this but what I do is a new software instrument, and then in the channel strip inspector where you can change the instrument think it's called the instrument slot here:

If I click the up and down arrow when you hover over where it said massive x it is under AU Instruments and then when I select Massive X → Stereo it then pops up just fine.

Based on it being in the AU units it should be in /Macintosh HD/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components and for me the filename is Massive X.Component

If it's a VST I'm not sure why you have that, I don't have a VST of it. I'm using the Native Access application. It shows up under the "instruments' tab and is 1.19GB installed.

You probably haven’t installed the VST3 version which is what Komplete Kontrol needs for it to load in that. Kontakt is irrelevant - it doesn’t load plugins

Hi Trekkie, thanks for taking the time to reply. What you've explained is basically where I would've opened the synth on my old Mac and where I'd expect to find it on my new Mac; but it's no longer listed with all the other NI instruments I've installed. Massive is there, but no longer Massive X. I wouldn't expect to find it in Kontact as it was never there in the first place.

Yeah, I wouldn't have expected it to appear in Kontact and ideally I don't want to be using it in Komplete Kontrol either; I'm used to using Massive X on its own, loaded directly onto the Logic channel strip so I can access the full instrument interface.

To me the problem is occurring at the install phase because Native Connect is saying the instrument is 'installed'; but then nothing appears when I follow the install pathway. And it's therefore not appearing within the Logic channel strip either.

Looking at other recently posted threads it appears I'm not the only Logic user experiencing this problem with Massive X at the moment so I'm hoping that it's a bug and that NI will find a solution. I think I'll contact them directly.

there is no known bug currently with Logic and Massive X.

Please try to open Komplete Kontrol in standalone, can you load a Massive X preset?

Please make sure to give full disk access to Logic: How to Enable Full Disk Access on macOS

Delete this file: Macintosh HD > Library > Audio > Plug-Ins > Components > Massive X.component

Apply these steps: My Massive X Browser is Missing Presets

Open Logic. Close Logic. Reinstall Massive X in Native Access.

Open Logic again, can you load Massive X finally?

I've been through those steps again today and although Massive X is now available within Komplete Kontrol (a step forward!) it still doesn't appear in my list of other NI instruments, within Logic. Why would Komplete Kontrol be able to locate it, but Logic X not? It's good that we're making progress - any ideas for resolving this completely?

Hi Kymeia, you're a legend!

That's a good suggestion, thank you. I opened up to check and it WAS listed, but was the only one of my NI plug-ins where the box was unchecked, and under the compatibility column it stated "couldn't be opened".

I basically selected and re-scanned the plug-in. After closing down and re-opening Logic I can now open and use a fully functional Massive X!
