Pioneer XDJ AZ with TP4?

Anyone know if there's a way to get Traktor Pro 4 to work with Pioneer's XDJ AZ? And if so, how does it impact the hardware's functionality? Does it translate 1:1 or will there be several items that don't work?

I figured since it's compatible with DJM A9 and CDJ 3000, and older XDJ XZ, there's got to be a way. Thank you

why would you want to do that, the whole point of the AZ is that it tightly coupled with rekordbox 7

Mainly the hardware is very similar to club standard items like the DJM A9 and CDJ 3000. So essentially if I go to any of the clubs, I'd easily be able to connect my TP4 and have the muscle memory to use the club equipment. Also Rekordbox isn't as flexible with deep mapping. I tried several other software platforms and TP4 is still the best with mapping, analysis, flow, etc. I also have 2 AH K2's and 2 F1 Kontrols fully mapped for my work flow .

1:1 nope. Screens won't work with Traktor and jog response will suck. Otherwise you can map other controls freely.

Bummer. When you say the screens won't work, do you mean they'll be blank or static, or do you mean that when you scroll and touch the screens on the hardware, it won't correlate to what it should on laptop (Traktor screen)? Are there certain things that would work on the touch screen, for instance the internal settings, scrolling through the playlist, etc? Or will it essentially not work at all?

I don't use the jog wheels as much as others, just nudging to align BPM. That's kind of a bummer because I like to be able to get used to how it is using club standard equipment, and use a lot of the button features on the hardware.

I just Don't understand why Traktor is alienated like that while they allow serato to have full one-to-one functionality

This is the best way to play at clubs. I use 2 cdjs via hid and a z1 plugged into a djm channel 1. Reason why I like using the z1 is cos of traktors mixer effects. Dual delay and the reverb. Makes every transition smooth.

Very clean setup. I originally was going to go with the DJM A9 and two CDJ 3000s but it's so expensive. If I'm not mistaken, those do work with traktor Right? Or are we going to have the same issues with screens? I was hoping to get the XDJ AZ that is more economical, but looks and feels like those other more expensive components. Since many clubs have that set up, it'll be easier for me to plug in my laptop for software, but use the hardware more intuitively while still taking advantage of some of the things that it brings to the table.

A9 and CDJ3000 are working flawlessly with Traktor. Also the screens, this is an HID implementation there.

I know using HID helps, so that's good to hear the top level stuff works one to one. Just seems unfortunate they wouldn't give that type of functionality to the AZ. I love Traktor and all the mappings, so didn't want to have to go to serato. But at the same time since so many clubs have pioneer, wanted to get familiar with the hardware and some of its features and kind of marry them together. I don't know why pioneer would allow Serato so much access but not native instruments. I'm sure it's business related

I mean, the AZ was released 2 weeks ago, NI would need time to implement HID. But given their aversion to implementing third-party hardware except for the high-end gear, there’s a low chance it will happen.

They never implemented HID for the XDJ-XZ, I wouldn't hold my breath

NI also neglected the XDJ-RX3 which is really popular at smaller venues. I really think NI is missing the boat right here.

Is it a pioneer thing, or an NI thing? Just weird how supposedly it works flawlessly with their flagship DJM and CDJs, but not with top tier controllers. Yet serato slides seamlessly into it. Whoever makes the decision on it, I agree they're missing the boat. I've enjoyed my controller for years, and hopefully TP4 continues to grow and evolve including live stem capabilities. I know that's the fad of the day, but it's definitely something that should continue to grow and get polished with controllers.

Just sucks for me because I really want to go back and play a couple of these gigs, but they have DJM and CDJ setups. I tried record box and serato and didn't really care for them because of the lack of flexibility and deep mapping. So my hope was to grab this AZ since it resembles the higher price DJM and CDJs, just so I can memory map how everything works and potentially take my laptop to the gig and set it up that way.

So unless I spend a fortune on the A9 in 3000s, looks like I'm still stuck. I'm sure there will be some creative mappings out there, but as was mentioned, if things like the screens don't work and the jog wheels aren't responsive, is it really worth the investment?

    That's not the point :)

I don't want to transfer my collection to Rekordbox and lose all my hotcues etc. I know there are (third party) apps to get your collection to RB but I simply don't want to. I have a Rekordboxed SSD for locations where I can't use my own gear and i can't use Traktor. But it's not up-to-date! I mainly use Traktor and even most of the time my own gear and want to use that. I don't want to keep RB up-to-date for that once-in-year venue.

Too many times i get a bunch of CDJ with missing buttons or buttons misbehaving. Faders falling apart, EQ knobs missing, etc. I don't trust gear like that. I want to give a good show and if that means i have to use my own gear and software, so be it.

I'm the proud owner of DDJ-SZ and an XDJ-RX3 which unfortunately don't work with Traktor.

That's the other aspect of it. How many clubs are open to you bringing your own gear if they have stuff pre-installed, and how many are getting insist that you have to use their equipment even if it's jacked up. I mean if I'm able to bring my own kits That's great, but if not I was looking for that middle solution too get comfortable with "club standard" equipment at home while still being able to utilize Traktor. I'm not intending on playing festivals or anything like that, nor plan to be a regular resident and clubs. But there are a few places that I can jump in and just have fun like I used to when I used to DJ in the late '90s and early 2000s. That's why I don't want to necessarily spend so much money on the A9 and 3000s. The AZ seemed perfect for kind of what I was looking for, especially matching it with my two AH K2s and two F1 Kontrols. I guess I'll hold tight at least until late in the year to see if someone comes up with a solution, or for some miracle alpha theta decides to allow HID. Thank you for your insights

Not sure I could be arsed, lugging a laptop and HID mode and all that malarkie, when I dj in a club which is pretty rare nowadays, I just sequence it (key it)and load up my set on a usb pen, I can use any mixer so not that bothered really about carting mixers about, if I play a small bar/lounge I will take my Denon Prime Go and just plug in to the sound system SD cards full of classics and bangers (same as everyone else I guess), I use Traktor at home in my studio, and I also have an Ipad 128 GB 10 gen with Traktor DJ 2 on it for the plane or when I am on my jollies abroad if I fancy a mix etc and travel light…. I also have an s4 mk3 which I don't use as much as I should spends most of its time in the box in a cupboard I do have a separate mac book for that with more house stuff to mix and syncing acapellas etc, that requires jog wheels, I have 2 x X1 mk2's I no longer really use,. I have 2 x F1's and an Allen & heath PX5 mixer, bought an IMAC 27" which I use for Studio + Traktor4 pro, F1's for one shots loops etc. but want to move from that to Maschine, I bought last year 2 x X1 mk3's, I had the Xone K2s but they are old now and I prefer the upgraded USB on the X1 mk3's, in addition to that I have 3 x Pioneer CDJ's and an Allen & Heath DB4 which I love love love (Bought it when John Digweed started using it) all sat downstairs. (Rarely use this but occasionally practice if I get the offer of a club or if I want to show off when I am tipsy. I have the standard Rokits but rarely turn them on because I use Shure iems 2 x pairs of 215s and 1 x pair 535's really got used to using these in the house now would not go back. occasionally when the neighbours are out I do like to go for it a bit.

Basically what I am saying is, you should be able to DJ on anything if you are good enough, I don't go carting my kit about or making work flows and complex club setups, the club is a standard setup is for a reason, plug in and go, I will buy the new z1 mk2 to complement the X1 mk3s but if I am honest I dont really need it tbf. and most of the hardware these days you see coming out (not like the old days) is tightly coupled to the software of choice, Serato I don't use (I used it when it was itch) I see these controllers are getting far too complex and cluttered for me, Traktor keeps it relatively simple, even though the software is in itself complex, at the end of the day its about the music not what kit you have, but each to their own I guess :-)
