Graphic issue with KK and Air Music plugins in Cubase

Hello

I bumped into a rather annoying issue.

When I load an Air Music plugin (Hybrid 3/Vacuum Pro/Xpand!2) into Komplete Kontrol in Cubase (Artist 13) intially the plugin opens well, however if I close the KK windows and then reopen it, the plugin GUI does not appear. (see screenshot

I am on Windows 10 with a GTX 560 Ti GPU and 1920x1080 resolution. The latest available Nvidia drivers.

Turning HiDpi on and off in Cubase did not help.

Loading another plugin and then reloading the Air Music plugin makes the GUI reappear, but issue is still there, ie. after closing and opening the KK window, I get the same problem.

Disabling and then Enabling the track in Cubase also helps.

Of course, any two combination of the 3 players (Cubase, KK, Air Music plugin) works nice, the standalone KK can switch back form library view to plugin GUI, the plugins work well in Cubase without the KK, etc. but if I want to use the three of them together, they refuse to cooperate.

As usual, any help is welcome.

Thank you

You do not give information crucial to making any educated guesses such as version of Komplete Kontrol software used.

I am not entirely sure about it , and N.I. makes it next to impossible to look up system requirements for a past version of Komplete Kontrol anyway, but as matter of principle then as far as I know N.I. usually require Direct 3D 11.1 or higher and your graphics adapter GTX 560 Ti is feature level 11_0 only so using a 11 year old GPU is asking for trouble in general.

For Komplete Kontrol the latest available which has been reinstalled, together with the component that connects my S88 mk3 keyboard.

Since then the whole system tumbled down, in Cubase the keyboard can no longer recognise the the KK software, only Kontakt works now with the keyboard. Of course Cubase, NI software have been reinstalled and the keyboard was reset. No result.

Anyway, I do appreciate any help.

I gave a run to the Cubase-KK-Air Music trio on my Surface Pro 6, which is not an up-to-date machine, but its Intel UHD 620 supports Direct3D 12. Same problem.

Can the MK3 keyboard recognize the Komplete Kontrol as a stand-alone ?

Also the can not recognize the software , it's not just an autofocus problem or ?

Of course Cubase, NI software have been reinstalled and the keyboard was reset. No result.

After keyboard reset did you then check if the keyboard is set to Midi 1.0 ?

Also , I don't know if uninstalling and reinstalling reset the Cubase VST database , else try manually resetting Cubase VST database and then rescan

Other than that then you might have been hit by the connection problem even if you have not had any firmware update problem , check the troubleshooter : Kontrol S-Series MK3: Troubleshooting Firmware Update Issues , you can also try updating the driver for the Kontrol MK3 keyboard.

Otherwise if the issue persists then contact N.I. Komplete Kontrol Support

Thank you PoorFellow, the autofocus magic did the trick.

Bear in mind the Air VST3 versions are still in beta

    https://www.airmusictech.com/beta-download/

They seem to be pretty buggy still so might be worth also discussing with them

Thank you, the problem stays the same with the VST 3 version. I contacted Air Music, if there is an update I will report.

    Ha, good luck.

I've tried Air Music Beta plugins the last 2 beta releases and reported issues through to them in regards to the plugin GUIs not showing in KK and Maschine (or showing outside of the KK window. Have also reported issues about presets not showing up in the list of some plugins too but have never heard back from them.

The Beta version of their plugins are not stable at all. I am waiting to see some improvements so I can update the old NKS libraries that support VST2.

    Hello Jester

The presets have to be copied from the VST 2 versions folders into the VST 3 ones, it is somewhat a headache to find out exactly where to. But once I had this, too bad that the VST 3s were amazingly buggy, they did not react to ModWheel, often froze and so on.

I got an answer from them, but this is just some AI created general advice on updatig the drivers, etc.

However, here is some interesting stuff. For fun, in Cubase I opened KK, and inside KK I opened Akai VIP Pro, a somewhat obsolete (only VST 2 support) wrapper, and inside the Akai Pro I opened an Air Music plugin. Now this setup actually worked the plugin GUI opened in a separate window, but it could closed and reopened again. Of course, nothing is perfect so I had face this flickering issue I described here:

Issue with KK 3.3.3 and Tone2 Warlock — Community

    So, to sum up:

Akai VIP Pro can handle the Air Music plugins

Komplete Kontrol can handle the Akai VIP Pro

As I am an ever optimist, I am looking at this pile of horses**t and I am conviced that there should be a pony around here….

    :-D

Yeah every other wrapper I have tried works just fine. Even Maschine works fine. It is just KK that has issues and in regards to the previous KK V2, it works fine with every VST2 plugin I have used but VST3 there are so many that do not work in KK within Ableton Live, just a blank or missing GUI: Cherry Audio, GForce, Korg, IK Multimedia to name just a few. This was an issue from when KK received VST3 compatibility right up to today, NI were aware of it in Beta but just ignored it for years and never addressed it, likely because they don't have the talent anymore to actually fix things, just copy/paste code. This is why my faith has fallen to an all time low after years of being optimistic.

Geez, this sounds apalling. Not exactly what I wanted to hear after investing heavily in NI keyboard, libraries and freelancesoundlab stuff (which is absolutely great, and was not the heavy part of investing)
Anyway, let's hope some NI guys will try to save their face loss after all.

Some of the issues are due to plugin developers a bit. Air Musics older plugins for instance appear to be built on a pretty ancient framework however the issues with VST3 and plugin GUIs being blank in DAWs like Ableton (Windows) are 100% a KK issue and the thing that has always made me disappointed is the lack of attention paid to issues like this that are major usability problems and for me, i've kind of resorted to using KK to find and test sounds before I then dispose of KK and just load the plugin with the preset I found direct on the track which is just painful considering KK WAS a great solution for the first 7 years with almost no problems and now, well, just read the first page of the forum and that seems to highlight the changes these days. Becoming too complex for its own good!

    Hi Jester

Again< i do sympathize with you who is trying to overcome these issues and is making the KK/Kontrol Keyboard ecosystem usable beyond the Kontajt libraries. Please do not give up and keep up with your excellent work.
