Komplete Kontrol S61 MKII won't communicate with Kontakt 8

Installed Kontakt 8, opens fine. Problem is that my MkII s61 keyboard doesn't seem to work with Kontakt 8. The browser button is not lit up and even when I choose a sound in Kontakt 8, it won't respond to the keyboard. Is this a firmware issue? Seems like a big miss if it is, because I checked my firmware for the MKII and it says it's up to date. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Have the S61 MKII here and while I have not yet moved to K8 - I can tell you we (MKII users) have not had a firmware update since 2018/9 ish nor have any been needed.

And - K8 will only ever "communicate" with an MKII (like browsing sound etc) - via Komplete Kontrol.

You cannot drive Kontakt 8 standalone via any MKII board. You will need a MKIII board to do that.

Now if this not working when K8 is loaded (as an instrument) into Komplete Kontrol (v2.9.6 or V3.30) then this is a different issue

The MK2 doesn't have direct integration to Kontakt, you need to use Komplete Kontrol and load Kontakt fom inside that.

Most likely reason that you don't get sound when you press a key is that the keyboard isn't enabled for MIDI in the Preferences options.

Thanks to both of you. Working fine through Komplete Kontrol. Don't know how I got confused there. I think they may have changed the appearance which must have been what confused me. Thanks again!

Quick followup for you both. When I try to open up Kontakt 8 in KK, it is greyed out. Any idea why?

For me it's not understandable why the MKII integration couldn't be realized up to the point where at least the well-known NKS1 specification compliancy for general keyboard and screen control is met. After all, MKII isn't EOL yet. So, what would currently be the general motivation for any MKII keyboard user thinking about upgrading from Kontakt 7 to Kontakt 8 in case the full potential of this new application can exclusively be unfold if this goes along with purchasing a new MKIII keyboard?

Additional question (slightly off-topic but still related to a similar MKII support question):

I was initially also considering to upgrade from Machine 2 software to Maschine 3. However, does anybody from the community know if NI also removed any specific MKII keyboard integration from Maschine 3 already? If a similar approach is taken there as in Kontakt 8, namely to avoid any MKII control inter-communication, it wouldn't be a fair move. After all, the MKII still has the benefit to provide dedicated hard keys for operating Maschine 2-specific commands directly. If that wouldn't be working anymore in Maschine 3, it wouldn't be worth the upgrade. Please advise. Thanks.

I asked the day the new v3 release came out - the answer was solid via Jeremy_NI.

A MKII (and all of it's onboard Maschine specific controls) work just as they did in Maschine v2.
