Hey guys,

currently I'm looking for a good working dockingstation for my macbook air M2. There are a lot of posts and articels online where peoples write about there issues with the Mac-Book M-series and the use of Hubs and docking station… What's your recommendation when it comes to producing with maschine? I want to connect an external harddrive a midi-keyboard and the maschine mikro mk2.

Peace

I think you don't need a docking station only for those 3 devices, I believe that the MacBook Air has enough power to supply all 3 devices, but I might be wrong as I don't own a MacBook Air, however my suggestion is to buy a regular hub (which are way cheaper than the docking station), and try.

It should work just fine, however if there are dropouts from any of the devices, that's mean that the computer can't handle (power wise) all 3 devices, in that case I'd look for a powered hub. But I am optimist that a decent budget hub is enough.

you need the docking station if you need to plug a lot of stuff that requires a power, like monitors etc… I believe that would be an overkill for you with your current set-up.

OWC Thunderbolt 3, no major issues yet, knock on wood. Actually, one issue was that the front TB port is extremely slow, so I had to plug in the SSD into the Mac mini's TB port. The other ports are working well.

yeah, maybe you right about the overkill … since the M2 version has two USB-C connections another idea would be to get two USB to USB-C cables so I can plug in the harddrive with the Maschine and skip the midi-keyboard. think there will be no power issues at all and it costs like 30 € if it's original apple-quality.

@Milian919191 yeh maybe one hub for the keyboard and maschine and directly connect the hard drive, because if there is any drop out will be on the hub, and I believe that the keyboard and the maschine will survive that, but the data in the hard drive may get corrupted.

that's what I do actually, I ALWAYS connect the hard drive directly! (I had a very bad experience in the past where I lost not only music but all my photos for good, it is like loosing a part of my best memories of travels and people that I don't see anymore… trust me a corrupted hard drive can be very very dramatic I almost cried! ahahha) sorry for the side story haha
