Konfusion...: What Firmware Version should be on my Komplete Kontrol MK2 S-88 ?

Bought the (super-fab) MK2 S-88 over a year ago, and finally found the time to set it up. Am on Sonoma 14.6.1 and Logic Pro, and though mostly working, there are glitches, and think perhaps it might be that the firmware is terribly out of date.

Currently, my S-88 says it's Firmware Version v0.6.0

On the NI website "Downloads: Drivers & Other Files" page, in the Komplete Kontrol S Series section, there's a listing for:

"Firmware Updater for Komplete Kontrol S-Series MK3 3.20.0 - Mac"

… One would think it's only for the MK3 series, but…when you open the Info link, it states…

"…This update is required to every user of Komplete Kontrol MK2."

Is this a typo? … or does it mean what it says?

Am Konfounded.

Long story short: should I update the firmware on my MK2 … using the MK3 Firmware updater 3.20.0 and bring it up to v. 1.7.6 ???????

… or is it indeed a typo and I should stay on v.0.6.0 ???

Thanks in advance for your help …. ;-)

Sincerely,
Konfused. Konfounded. …and yes, a bit Konstipated. (v.9.0.3)

    It is a typo.

I have an S-61 MKII and have not seen a firmware update in 4 years.

I would not attempt to install this to your device. It would probably fail anyway as it is not designed for a MKII but no sense messing around

If you are experiencing glitches - this could be due to use of Komplete Kontrol v3.3.x which is really geared toward the MKIII series

Roll back to Komplete Kontrol v2.9.6 if possible and your MKII should settle down.

I still have my S49MK2 connected and working fine with the current versions of Komplete Kontrol and Kontakt7 along with my S99MK3 and never had to do anything other than configure it in my DAW or in KK and Kontakt7.

    Wow. Thanks, VP !

Could we have this verified by an official NI person please?

Also, if it is indeed as VP says, and that I should 'roll back to Komplete Kontrol v2.9.6, where in heaven's name can one find the download? (i've searched hard and have com up empty-handed;-).

And…. are we to assume it's Sonoma compatible? (that is, KK v2.9.6 ;-)

Lastly, if it is officially a 'TYPO'… you might want to alert your web team to fix this!

Let them know that the sentence: "…This update is required to every user of Komplete Kontrol MK2." is included in the Info links to the following files on the Drivers Downloads page:

Firmware Updater for Komplete Kontrol S-Series MK3 3.16.3 - Mac
Firmware Updater for Komplete Kontrol S-Series MK3 3.16.3 - Win
Firmware Updater for Komplete Kontrol S-Series MK3 3.20.0 - Mac
Firmware Updater for Komplete Kontrol S-Series MK3 3.20.0 - Win

@Jeremy_NI : Problem : Alexio read the info for the Kontrol MK3 firmware updates and the info for the updates says that they are needed for MK2 instead of MK3 🤔 So could you please answer Alexio's questions below here , Ref. : https://www.native-instruments.com/en/support/downloads/drivers-other-files/ :

I don't know about Sonoma but the downloads reference is here :

According to the compatibility list the first official Sonoma supported version of KK is 3.2.0. It's working pretty well now, as long as you don't need any of the features that have been removed!

Also, bear in mind that with Sequoia on the way you might be backing yourself into a corner if you manage to stick with the older version of KK.

@alexio It is 100% a typo. We'll get this corrected asap.

The only FW update you might need for the MK2 keyboard is this one:

Firmware Updater for Komplete Kontrol S-Series MK2 1.4.0 - Mac

    MK3s are totally different devices.

No need to roll out to Komplete Kontrol 2.9.6 unless you own a MK1 keyboard. The latest version of Komplete Kontrol 3.3.2 does support the mk2 keyboards.

The latest version of Komplete Kontrol 3.3.2 does support the mk2 keyboards.

What ? , that information I have not found in the change log for the Official update status - Komplete Kontrol (current version: 3.3.2).

Are your post a typo ? Were you referring to MK1 ? Or are support for S-Series MK2 keyboards suddenly being deprecated ?

Must be a typo , a typo in a post about another typo 🤣

    No typo here:

The latest version of Komplete Kontrol 3.3.2 does support the mk2 keyboards. Only the MK1 are not supported after Komplete Kontrol 3.0.

Oh! How embarrassing , for some reason I read it as NOT supported. Sorry about that..

Thanks so much, Jeremy_NI….. but…. it looks as though we have yet another discrepancy. ;-)

In my initital post (way up there ;-) … I stated: "Currently, my S-88 says it's Firmware Version v0.6.0 ."

The Info link for the "Firmware Updater for Komplete Kontrol S-Series MK2 1.4.0 - Mac" file states the following:

Komplete Kontrol MK2 Firmware Updater 1.4.0 brings Firmware version 0.5.9 for S-series.

… and that turns out to be one version OLDER than the one installed on my MK2 S-88 (see photo;-)

    So…. yet another quandary:

Did the web team forget to include v0.6.0 on the Drivers | Downloads page….
    OR…
Did NI 'pull it' for some reason????

Should I "roll back" to 0.5.9 and if so…. what's the process?

Forgive my finding these issues… it's truly not my intention … ;-)

ps. Good to know that KK 3.3.2 supports MK2… ;-))))

Should I "roll back" to 0.5.9 and if so…. what's the process?

No! , don't worry , that is as should be. My S61 MK2 keyboard is a Firmware 0.60 also.

The issue pops up once in a while because someone wonders. My own take on the issue is that it's because that N.I. made some minor adjustments to something on the keyboards at some point making the newest/latest version of the keyboards being born with the 0.6 Firmware. It could also be for very simple reasons that the firmware number when increased , such as setting a marker for some reason.

Anyway , the S-Series MK2 keyboard versions from before latest will not update to beyond V. 0.59 and latest is born with 0.6 and should stay that way 🙂

@alexio Sometimes the firmware at the fatory is newer than the one we provide here. That's not a problem, this new facrory firmware does not change the behaviour of the SW. Your keyboard is simply up to date with 0.5.9. If you have any kind of issues, it's not related to the firmware.
