How access my libraries on Windows 7 ?

I'm PC win 7 and got kontakt 6.6.1. I have native access 1 and had access to my numerous kontakt libraries that I bought over the years.
Now I want to install one of these libraries, I hadnt installed before, but I have no more access: When I click on the native access 1 link native access tries to automaticly update itself to access 2. That fails. So I cant get to my libraries. Also I found out, that native access 2 doesnt work with win 7. I got the latest version of native access 1 that is 1.14.1 and I put the proxy setting right on my PC, as you explained on your help site. Still error message "No compatible update found. Download failed."
So please I need a version of native access that doesnt always tries to update automaticly. I only want to get in touch with my kontakt libraries. Also I want to buy some new libraries for kontakt 6.6.1 or lower (In Session Audio, Sample Logic and so on). How shall I get them?

Microsoft discontinued support for Windows 7 on January 14, 2020. On this date, the operating system reached its end of life (EOL), meaning that Microsoft no longer provided security updates, technical support, or bug fixes for it. Extended Security Updates (ESU) were available for some business users until January 2023, but for most users, January 2020 marked the official end. Windows 8 was introduced on October 26, 2012. Windows 10 was introduced on July 29, 2015.

Windows 7 development stopped in 2012, it is not supported in any way by Microsoft.

Native Access 1.14 is still available as a workaround but it's no longer developed and does not support the latest products. It will also be deactivated next year.

And everybody interested should write to the companies for support, that made you believe their kontakt libraries would run on kontakt 6.6.1 or lower not mentioning that native access issue.

Had no idea that SC ever allowed "offline" anything. If it did - cool.

But SC was eons ago and there is most likely some other obscure technical reason for that as well.

I still do not think that the current owners of NI have any issue with spending money or doing the work - I believe this is more due with erasing technical debt and focusing their time, talent and budgets on things that actually matter.

Yes SC allowed offline authorisation. No internet connection needed.

The thing is that one may need to open old projects, or simply needs old OS to be able to run all plugins/DAWs needed.

I also have to use WinXP to be able to run very old version of MS Visual studio. If suddenly customer comes and asks for small change in legacy SW that I have developed decades ago for them (or for company in between). It happens here an there. 30+ years old code is still used…

That is an extreme edge case (and a fantasy) that I guarantee you - no vendor (including Microsoft) cares about in any way.

It is on all of us to ensure (by whatever means) to archive and render out every track of every project regardless of year or tech or whatever - if we need to open it in the future.

I can tell you that I will not be calling out Presonus in 2031 if I suddenly decide to open something I recorded in 2015 in Studio One v3.

If this project is really that important to me - I will render out to a format I know I can work with in the future.

But I have no illusions or future expectations that any vendor is going to be there to help me or that any software available now - will be available then. Because it will not.

It's not and extreme edge case, nor is it a fantasy. In my opinion, myopic to think so. You can disagree
with my thoughts all you like, i have no issue if you do.
There are a lot of people out in the world still using and maintaining systems running windows XP to support various legacy projects or hardware/software. Heaven forbid the idea should a person still run win98sp3 for scsi support. They do so knowing that there is no OS support etc ad infinitum. with out those legacy OS's and pcs still running, more hardware eg classic hardware synths from the 80's and 90's for example end up in landfill. We will own it, and we will be happy :-)

Oh my, there you go again playing the condescending role with your pendulum swinging terminolgy. You are forever using words of emphasis to downplay things YOU don't see as a problem, and you think everyone should abide by the way you do things and if we dont then we are in fantasy land.. You're also giving more impetus for NI to ignore what many of us see as a fair and right thing to do.

People have bought their products. Those products may be very favourable to them in the long term. Example, just like some sounds never die, the means to produce them doesn't die either. In such cases legitmitate owners have every right to use their perpetual licenses they paid for if they have the medium that works to facilitate that. It is VERY simple, if other companies can do it ….Let us have our installers and a way to activate them offline if needbe.

It does ACTUALLY matter, and not as you put it "edge cases". You might want to drop the continual prognosticating as well telling us all how its going to be and to basically just roll over and accept it.

Its a moral and legal imperative for NI to make way to at least activate our ni and 3rd party libraries. Otherwise you are taking away our libraries.

Yes, you are right. One should not be forced to seek for solution to use SW. It should just work. And that is what matters. If it works or not.

One may use WinXP without any problems, even older Windows. The same with MS Office 2000. Even Borland C++, Borland Pascal would probably run on current computers. At least it did about 10 years ago. Client needed small update.

There is nothing absurd to require to be able to open 10, 15 years' old project or use legacy plugins.

You are 100% correct. You have the right to try to "open" whatever you want - when you want. If it opens and you can use it - great.

But no vendor is required to "support" you in that quest once a product is declared retired.

And I want to be clear - when I say "support" I am not talking the ability to call the helpdesk or post a question in a forum like this about a product that is 14 years old.

I am talking the sustained effort (and expense) of correctly supporting (and maintaining) any FULL systems that backed that product in the distant past - including those systems that provide authorization.

Remember what you bought here - nothing but a "right" to run the software for a (usually) limited timeframe. Nowhere in any EULA from any company does it guarantee any rights to run your "retired" thing to the end of time. If it does - good on ya.

This is tired conversation boys. 4 pages and not a peep from NI on this.

I agree that you should be able to activate. But until that comes to pass - there is no point riffing on it.

Also - no one is "taking away" your libraries. I am running your libraries right here - right now - on Windows 10 and in Kontakt 7 with no issues whatsoever.

Q: Are you actually interested in using your software - or just arguing about something that has zero chance of ever changing?

Even current EULA has:

"3.2 Native Instruments grants Licensee the non-exclusive right without restrictions in time or place to use the Products. Native Instruments is not obliged to cede the software underlying source code, including the associated development documentation."

and

"3.5 Licensee is not authorized to modify the software, unless it is to preserve or restore the agreed functions of the software purchased."

It implies, that user may modify SW to make it work as intended. So, removing copy protection is allowed in this case. Also, it is not in EULA, but usually in copyright law (or other laws are applied), that Licencee has right to get covered his expenses to do that, by Licencer,

and about right for cover customer damage:

" 9 Damages

We are solely liable for damages regardless of legal reason, in particular from impossibility, arrears, defective or incorrect delivery, breach of contract, breach of duties during contract negotiations, or for tortious acts pursuant to the regulations of this § 9. For the rest, any liability for damages is excluded."

I am lazy to seek old EULA, but for sure it was even more explicit about right of licencee to get NI SW authorised.

I just hope they can rid themselves of all this technical debt and then consider hiring more support staff to help navigate the product lines that actually matter into the future.

Prognosticating again ? How do you know unless you've got inside knowledge, or you're just stirring the pot yet again with the same old same old. The only thing tired about this conversation is hearing your mantra over and over again and for the time you spend doing it, you might want to take a piece of your own advice and go and make some music, (that is if you can) instead of waving your big stick all through this forum.

If your system is 100% working, "frozen" and offline - you are good to go.

The retirement and dismantling of NA v1 in early 2025 will not effect anything.

That said - just remember that retired means retired. And frozen/offline means - stay frozen and stay offline.

If something does go south on that machine - next week or next year - there will be no means of reviving that install.
