Creating a nks preset based on a synth setting

Hi,

some of my plugins, e.g. ZebraHZ, have much more presets installed than the nks support provides. So I already learned that I can simply choose a preset within Zebra, and then save this preset in Komplete Kontrol under "save as".

But how do I select or even create a bank for this newly added preset?

Also is there a way to automatically convert all the ZebraHZ presets to nks? Maybe via Apple Script? Couldn't Komplete Kontrol listen on preset change and then auto-save the preset?

All can be done from inside Zebra HZ - to make banks (ie give a collection of banks a bank name) - drag them onto the banks field in the Zebra browser and enter the desired name

Then use export to NKSF and import them into KK

For anything not made by u-he (or the 2 bx plugins from Plugin Alliance that also have NKS export) you can use this tool to create banks and also edit the other fields that currently KK3 doesn't allow to be edited

It is possible to do batch exporting to NKS for some plugins but the results vary. I have has success with plugins that expose the bank name for copy/paste such as all Arturia plugins and Phaseplant - with these I've setup scripts in Automator to run the process. The only downside is it's very finicky about mouse and window positions being exact so I have to create a new script each time and then leave it alone - I then have to check for what it has missed because it is not 100% perfect in my experience. When doing this make sure you have created your controller template first and use that as the starting point. I have not had any success trying to do it by copying filenames though, not sure what I'm dong wrong.

In most cases I do it by hand or just don't bother with batch export if there are hundreds of presets because I know I won't use more than maybe 5% of those anyway and prefer to make my own so I mainly focus on having good control and saving the occasional great preset manually, as well as saving my own that I like.

I cannot find a nksf option under save as / right clicking save… I am using rev 12095. Which one do you use?

So I select a bank and then?

Ah ok, only works with the vst2 version…

Sorry should have said, at the moment this is only available on the VST2 version (so maybe load in another host)

The procedure is, right click on the 'save' button in the VST2, change the output format to .nksf

Give your patches a bank name, then select them all and right click on the selection to export them to .nksf and rescan in KK to update

Optionally you may want to just use the default Zebra HZ NKS folder but I prefer to have some control over where they go so I temp rename the default folder so the exported patches don't disappear into it, then when they are exported you can collect them and put them in their own folder with their own bank name, then unrename the default one

Thanks anyway, already found out that only the VST2 versions of the U-He plugin can export nks. So do I understand this correctly, as soon as I put presets into a new collection, this collection also will be shown in the groups menu?

Do you know any other synth which can export nks presets? How are the nks presets made for Arturia synths?

Once you have scanned them into the database

Yes, as I said the 2 bx synths by Plugin Alliance - don't think there are any others that have export built in - I guess Arturia and some other companies have in-house tools but they don't release them
