Hi,

In Kontakt, is there a way to assign a Midi controller on the choice of a “program” or a preset (like > Dark Star … and other preset)

I've remap CC on my NON NI controllers to manage balance, cut off etc. and works welll but I can't find how to change programs / presets

thanks in advance

It's possible to assign MIDI messages or Program Changes to the presets in Kontakt using Instrument Bank. You don`t need the Komplete Kontrol plug-in.

    From the manual:

Instrument Banks allow you to combine
up to 128 Instruments into a container that responds to a single MIDI input channel; you can
then switch the active Instrument by sending MIDI program change messages on this channel.
This allows you to create General MIDI-compatible sound sets, or combine Instruments that
contain various articulations of the same acoustic instrument into one slot. A typical example
of an Instrument Bank would be a number of violin Instruments that contain legato, detaché,
staccato, and pizzicato Samples, respectively, with the different articulations and playing
techniques being switchable via program change messages. Instrument Banks can be saved
and loaded separately as files with an .nkb extension.

    EDITED (thanks to @silentio246 )

You can also do that in the Komplete Kontrol plug-in if you have a NON NI keyboard, it will apply to all NI instruments:

@silentio246 Thanks for correcting me! You're right, but doing it once in Komplete Kontrol will make it work with any Kontakt library or NI product.

Hi Jeremy. Thanks for the tip! Currently i don`t use Komplete Kontrol, because i don`t have a Komplete Kontrol Keyboard. But i have K14U now and maybe it could be useful for me; i often use midi program change in Ableton Live and Live still doesn`t support PC changes with VST3, so i cannot use Kontakt 7. Are there different loading times in Komplete Kontrol, compared to Instrument Bank (which is preloaded)? How is the midi remote connection, when Komplete Kontrol is used as plugin (VST2) in Live? I would like to send PC changes with midi clips and change presets in Kontakt 7.

Long time ago i made this with Kore 😪.

    Many thanks.

If I understand you correctly you should be able to do it like shown in that video, you only use live clips instead of the controller to send PC messages. With this method you can directly load a preset with the PC number, so jump a few presets. But the other method with kk is also a good way, it just depends on your needs.

Thanks for the video-link. Maybe i did not explain correctly. I do that already with Kontakt 6 and Ableton Live with midi clips (PC messages), like you have proposed. But it works only with Kontakt 6, not with 7 (VST3) and Ableton cannot send PC changes to VST3. I`m looking for a solution, to control KK via PC messages, that I can use Kontak 7.

You don't need a Komplete Kontrol keyboard for this feature. It's precisely made for users that don't own a NI keyboard to be able to use other devices to control the Komplete Kontrol plug-in, in a very diminished way since it's only 8 knobs but also the preset up and down, this will work on any NI instrument you load.

I imagine you want to use Program Changes for a different use scenario but just wanted to point it out, in case of. Unfortunately I don't know any workaround for program changes on VST3s in Ableton.

I managed to map the preset up/down buttons in KK to midi cc. Could be a workaround, instead of using midi Program Changes and Instrument Bank in Kontakt. This could also be a solution for plugins, which cannot receive midi Program Changes (MassiveX, Izotope Iris2). Will make some tests. Thank you!
