Traktor Pro 2 software on my Macbook

Hi,

I'm in desperate need of installing Traktor Pro 2 (for which I have a valid serial number which came with the CD I bought together with my Kontrol S2 ages ago) on my MacBook Air M1 with Sonama 14.5.

I can't make it work, any direct installer fails, Native Access does not offer me the traktor pro 2 software (even if I type they serial code succesfully) and therefore I can't make any use of my old Kontrol S2.

Any idea what I can do in order to mix some tracks for upcoming saturday with my controller + record the session?

Thx in advance!

Use the 50% off Traktor Pro 3 while Summer of Sound. As you have a valid Traktor Pro 2 licence you are eligible for a discounted upgrade. Costs 29,50€ during Summer of Sound (till 8th July). This is the only way with your Apple Silicon Mac.

Traktor Pro 2 is compatible up to macOS 10.13 High Sierra only. That is the reason Native Access doesn't offer you the installation in macOS 14 Sonoma. As even the first Apple Silicon Macs require macOS 11 Big Sur (or newer) there is no way to use Traktor Pro 2 on current Macs. You need an upgrade to Traktor Pro 3.

ahaa interesting, thanks for letting me know! Can I be assured that my (old) Traktor Kontrol S2 controller will work perfectly fine with Traktor Pro 3?

how can I verify during/after purchase that I own a Traktor Pro 2 license?

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, much appreciated 🙏

If it is the original Kontrol S2 it is officially only supported up to macOS 10.11 El Capitan. There are no hardware drivers for newer versions of macOS. Some users report that they got their S2 Mk1 working on higher versions of macOS, but usually not above macOS 10.14 Mojave and only on Intel machines.

If you have an S2 Mk2 or Mk3 it should work with your Mac without special drivers because they are class compliant. They are supported by Traktor Pro 3 also.

To verify you have a licence for Traktor Pro 2: Login on NI website into your account, click on the head icon in the upper right corner and select "My products and serials". You get a list with all products connected to your account.

I heard from multiple people that the s2 mk1 works with M1 Mac and tp3.

dumb question: How do I find out which MK-version my Kontrol S2 is? It does not say by engraving on the backside or something…

First link is a review of Mk1, second one of Mk2. Both feature pictures, compare them with your device.

There is a difference with Traktor logo.

    I've got the Mk1 😂

So would you say it does not make sense to purchase the Traktor 3 Pro software in combination with the Macbook M1 Sonama because the controller will most likely not be supported?

What makes you say it will most likely not work?

    see this comment @lord-carlos

@maniacintosh81 saying: "There are no hardware drivers for newer versions of macOS. Some users report that they got their S2 Mk1 working on higher versions of macOS, but usually not above macOS 10.14 Mojave and only on Intel machines."

In addition, I did not see any support indicated by NI online (they only refer to Kontrol S2 MK2 and MK3 )

Download the traktor Pro 3 demo.

Like I said, I know people who have it working.

Just to be sure I asked again for you yesterday.

Me: Do you know if the traktor s2 mk1 still works on mac os 14 with m1 hardware?

B: Yes I still am able too

C: I also still own the S2 MK1 and I have the best specced Macbook M1, works great with Traktor 3 (I had to purchase it again, 2 doesn't work).

This is the official communication from NI: No support for Audio 2/4/6 DJ, Kontrol S2/S4 Mk1 anymore. As I don't own S4 Mk1, I cannot test or try it myself. With this older devices it is not a problem with Traktor Pro itself, it is usually an issue with drivers, as these older devices need special drivers. If they are recognized by your operating system, they would work in TP3. Newer devices are class compliant and work with drivers supported by macOS out of the box.

But downloading the TP3 Beta and test it by yourself is worth a try. If it works you can buy the upgrade after that. If not yo have to consider buying new hardware. You have nothing to loose except some time.

    Hey all (@maniacintosh81 @lord-carlos)

I just realized I never reported how it went: Thanks again for your great support and obviously the idea with testing the controller with the demo of traktor pro 3 was the right way to go! It all worked fine, old Kontrol S2 communicated properly with the Macbook and I purchased the full license with the discounted offer 🤗 the boat party was a great success so thanks again to all of you!

Now my only problem is that the recording did not work – I don't know if it was a technical hiccup or if I did something wrong in the settings. I will try it again and report back if it still does not work.

In the settings don't set anything for recording in the output routing. That needs to be empty.
