Releasing a so called smart controller keyboard in the price bracket these newest S series MK3 keyboards fall in without even basic midi control and not supporting the Maschine software is just about the dumbest thing ever from NI. More than six months on and many communications later saying it's coming soon midi template support has still not been released as an update. Why is it taking so long?

I'll continue to sit on the fence and wait to see what these updates will bring before committing to a shiny new MK3. Meanwhile I'll continue to use my MK2 which I have to say I've been extremely happy with and has served me well.

Not that this would ever happen, but NI might be smart and offer anyone who currently owns an MK3 and any future purchasers up until the MIDI templates actually materialize, a free sample library or something. Just to soften some hearts.

I'm a brand new adopter (Feb 2024) and I'm pretty turned off of this whole ordeal.

The first few months I was buying things left and right (Ultimate, Irish library, and Vocal Colors, the latter of which I love) but my wallet is officially closed.

NI, y'all are losing the battle of hearts and minds. All you need to do is stroll the internet to see it.

They've always been losing the faith of users when it comes to Komplete Kontrol. This is nothing new. And with KK3, they just cut right to the chase and elected to make many users dissatisfied right from day 1 by shipping the gear with unfinished software. And they seem predictably unapologetic about it too which is also nothing new.

At any rate (pun intended), if it takes them this long to update the keyboard functionality to include even some basic midi template control, they will likely never do another update. Besides, they've already clearly stated that we midi template users are just a tiny slice of the userbase which from a dollars and cents point of view makes us unimportant. That is why they saw fit to ship the MK3 without midi functionality. Ok, fair enough, N.I..

But I will tell you one thing, I am no longer your cheerleader. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

The fact that all KK hands are focused on Midi templates AND it's several months behind it's supposed release date does make me think that the promised features will either never show up or take so ridiculously long that it's all more frustrating than it's worth.

I knew that MIDI templates were not there when I purchased but I mistakenly believed NI wouldn't drop the ball so hard and miss the dates promised with very little updates since.

Like several long time users and new users… now I know… and I wish I had bought a real midi keyboard instead.

We've been working on this feature as best as we can.

    It's almost ready.

If you'd like early access to the beta (likely next week) please let me know via PM.

I will say, I sure hope the anger of some folks doesn't make its way into the beta team to the point that it becomes distracting to the mission. Or outright destructive.

I've been on a beta team where this happened. It was not our best day.

It won't. If it does, they'll just be removed. Constructive critcism only.

You really should just be hoping this thing gets into beta next week at this point. This is the most basic of features, and NI has punted the release repeatedly. Discussing when they plan to “enter beta” is just another way to say they still aren’t done. It could be half finished for all we know. NI has given no release date and has no credibility left AT ALL even if they did. I am surprised anyone is still holding out for a positive outcome.

The MK3 was shipped last November with quite literally 1/2 it's basic functionality compared to its predecessor. The fact we are in July and it hasn't had it's first firmware feature update is…well…I wish I could say surpising. I will leave it at that.

Some MK3 owners are happy as clams and that is awesome. But other MK3 owners are getting increasingly upset and they have their own valid reasons. The fact that some have even thrown it in a corner and reverted back to old gear speaks volumes.

Due to my own needs/usage habits, if I had bought the MK3 right away, I would likely be livid at this point myself.

This subject seems to be getting more polarizing because I am noticing more thumbs down on posts that aren't the least bit rude in tone. So I hope we can "continue" to give some grace to the people here who shelled out top dollar for the MK3, aren't happy, and want to express themselves in this space within the boundaries of the rules.

And they deserve to be able to express themselves without being shunned or crapped on for being "negative", and especially without getting a raft of thumbs down as if they are irrelevant and unwelcome.

A little compassion goes a long way in this world.

it's bizarre because the specifically market the S88 at composers and we are the most finnicky specific bunch. i can't imagine the convo about not making knobs mappable, it's like every basic MIDI controller's fundamental purpose, to be mappable.

If anyone is frustrated by this I am using BOME MIDI Translator to reroute the CC's to the mappings I had on my MK1, it's super easy to use. (Great piece of software I use it for lots of other things, highly recommend it for getting around manufacturer oversight and product rigidity). They have video on this exact use case, it takes 5 minutes to set up.
