Installing Trial Version of Retro Machine

Hello Everyone

Anyone know how to install the trial version? If you purchase it, it's simply a Native Access installation. If not I'm trying to figure it out since it's not mentioned in the .pdf

I just downloaded the trial for RM. The link on the NI page downloaded a file called Retro_Machines_Mk2. I then installed it into C:\Users\Public\Documents\NI Resources\image\retro machines mk2. I added the path to studio one, rescanned the plugins then tried to access it through Kontact and it's not there.

What am I missing?

    Never install libraries in C:\Users\Public\Documents\NI Resources\!!

    This folder is only for graphic resources, metadata etc. Nothing else.

    You should install everything in your Native Access Content Location folder. It can be the default folder or any folder you choose, however all the other Native Instruments content (Libraries etc) must go there as well.

    Maybe but I CAN tell you a few things

    • If they don't want me wandering around directories they should specify on the download page. There's a period at the end of that sentence.
    • It's not a .dll file so it's not inherent where it should go.
    • I've tried just sitting it in the general Native Instruments directory AND I've put it in the Kontact folder AND the VST64 bit file folder (refreshing studio one each bloody time) like you mentioned and none of it works.

    Yea that was helpful Sunborn.

    My xxx message was there because my original was edited then I gave up on it. It wasn't anything personal to you. I had referred to folders as directories and didn't include the other things I'd done. When I came back and re read it, it didn't make my reply clear so I decided to start again.

    Understood, no worries :-)

    To tell you the truth, this "I CAN tell you" with capital letters you wrote, annoyed me a bit, probably because I deal with Windows and Windows audio on a semi-professional level since 1998 and i am a professional musician too (so i was like... "ok smart-a** find it yourself", LOL, your ego vs my ego... no worries though). So i posted this...

    Anyway I have already gave you a correct answer, which applies on 99% of similar cases. It is pretty simple actually.

    First, uninstall completely the RM. Then open Native Access, go to Preferences and check which is your Content Location folder. In this folder you will install the RM, nowhere else, otherwise the NI applications can not find it.

    If you still have problems, then the cause is something different, maybe a missing Registry entry, or some kind of Studio One incompatibility, or something else.

    If you are familiar with Windows Registry, go to key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Native Instruments\Retro Machines Mk2

    and check the String Value named "ContentDir". If it is missing, or if it is a wrong folder, double click and add it or fix it manually (it is your Content location folder).
