Has NI Lost It's Way?

Exactly!. I have no problem with hardware devices being future-proofed with on-device capabilities.
I just don't want these hardware devices holding exclusive capabilities as some sort of strategic "hardware-dongle" like Universal Audio had going with their external DSP.
And I want to use my desktop screen and controls available as an optimized environment for all future capabilities.

@D-One asked
Why would one change the tech stack significantly if there are no "different plans ahead" ?
Well, that’s what I question as well.
But the general consensus seems to be that NI uses all that newly introduced technology as an excuse to break compatibility with old hardware and sell new hardware which will basically have the same capabilities as previous models (BTW having a large single screen instead of two small ones and displaying large mood graphics is not a new capability!!!).
That would be an insane waste of resources. Which doesn’t make sense, even from an economical standpoint. Thus it’s not unreasonable to expect the currently offered capabilities being only the tip of the iceberg. But it’s also not unreasonable to expect that the new tech stack could keep supporting current hardware with very little additional effort.

We now know more about what's coming to the software that updates Maschine than Maschine itself.

What now? lol what are you talking about?? Why would you need "audio converters" for the keyboard to have Host capabilities???? We are talking MIDI here, being sent to other client devices... The same thing it does when connected to a computer but without it, cause you know... some people want to use Arps and whatnot connected directly to their standalone synths or whatever.
I love your "close closed" repeated statements tho 🤣

Of course audio converters are not required for a standalone to have plugin hosting capabilities...
But if a device can host VI's, it's gonna have audio converters too. If not, the developer has done the heavy lifting but left something trivial off. Who would make such a crippled "workstation"?

@nightjar should be in marketing, he's like an encyclopedia of buzz words.

I too always want the desktop screen showing the controls available.
I use my S88 mk3 for browsing sounds and playing certain instruments, but if it’s a synth/organ style sound, I’m using my Arturia Keylab 61 mk2 to play it, and the knobs/sliders on it happily mimic what the ones on my S88 do, I’m not going to be staring at my S88 while playing my Keylab, I’m going to be glancing at my much larger kk display on my monitor to see which knob I need to turn to do what etc.

Strange that some find this funny. If a manufacture is gonna make a device that hosts VI's instruments, it's gonna have an audio out.

I am pretty sure KK software will continue to have the play assist built in as well as it being in the MkIII keyboards, KK is able to work with third party MIDI controllers so I can't see that being taken away. I don't see any reason to think adding them to the hardware would mean removing them from the software.
What would be nice though is for the NKS2 add-on features to also be visible in KK3 - I can see no logical reason why having a 'tech stack' in the keyboard precludes the software KK from being able to display things like Groups etc

It does that already - and you can navigate them using the keyboard if you are using the NI keyboard of course - all it doesn't show is these new NKS2 groups

Respectfully, have you been drinking? Who said anything about hosting VI's or workstations??? it's just smart play / assistive play tools... To connect the keyboard directly to things and not rely on KK for that, in other words have more than just "dumb" midi mode.
Thats what OTG/being a Host is, it has a 90$ computer on it, it's not a standalone M+ with keys... The screen already lags a bit changing pages imagine running VI's on it....

It's not my speculation at all... but the notion has been creeping into threads.. I was just trying to shut down such nonsense.

From @Kymeia quote: "What would be nice though is for the NKS2 add-on features to also be visible in KK3 - I can see no logical reason why having a 'tech stack' in the keyboard precludes the software KK from being able to display things like Groups etc"
Exactly! This is the point that I have been bringing up that some don't seem to have a problem with.

"The owners of NI sold their majority stake to a private equity company in 2021"
This answers so, so many questions.

Yes, my bad wording. was responding to nightjar, unless I misunderstood them, they were worried that in the future if all software works from within the S mk3 series, they may abolish the KK desktop screen, hence I was saying why I hope that doesn’t happen as I use it all the time.
