Big Sur 11.2.3 & Maschine compatibility versions on m1 mac's
This might seem like an odd question... but theres a reason why im asking
is the current version of maschine that i download from Native access going to be compatible with Big Sur 11.2.3.... and if not... is there a way to access older versions of Maschine to test compatibility should i run into problems?
the reason for downgrading to Big Sur 11.2.3 is for sideloading ipad/iphone apps.... which cannot be sideloaded using a MAC-OS which is higher...
ideally im looking to sideload all my purchased audio apps &utilise the apps with a midi controller support & also tap into the full potential of the M1 Mac with 16gb bypassing the need for a older ipad.. which doesnt have the same raw processing power as the m1's
anyone tried to revert to an older OS... to achieve the sideloading functionality & tested the current Maschine version?

Sideloading? Why do you need to sideload if your apps are legitimately purchased? Are your iOS/iPadOS devices jailbroken? Just curious.
Regardless my advice is heck no, do not downgrade your main system... NI only supports 3 versions down and Big Sur is now #4, if this trend of a major version each year continues it will be #5 next year. Optimization for Apple Silicon only improves each version, not only in the OS but also newer versions of SW not compatible with Big Sur, so using an old OS is counter productive to your "tap into the full potential of the M1" statement.
Just buy NVME SSD + enclosure (around $50 total) and install Big Sur 11.2.3 on it, you can then boot into it separately when you need sideloading without risking causing havoc on your main system. Guide here. If you go this route let me know as I can give some tips.

i purchased a 16gb ram version of the m1 competely fresh... as it already had big sur 11.6 installed i figure i would downgrade &test, if things with reaper + Maschine + ipad apps & see if things play nicely.
my current system 8gb m1 is still on ventura...
but what i've noticed is certain Ipad applications wont install on anything higher than big sur 11.3...
so i want to know if the ipad apps like loopy pro or other various ipad apps which have midi support will install and run... i've tried installing loopy pro on the 8gb ventura m1... but it wont run, as the developer has not allowed it to be installed on a m1 mac mini
so in a sense im testing things to see if the uninstallable apps will install on big sur11.2.3... which is touted as the last update you could sideload everything and run it... supposedly...
if the loopy pro installs, i will also test if an upgrade to big sur 11.6 will maintain the loopy pro application in working order...also how well optimised everything is
its just one of those silly tests i do... for curiousity sake! LOL

no jailbroken devices... all legit purchases.. but the ipad are a numbers of generations down from top tier ipad... so i figure, use the m1's raw processing power & ram & storage.. to hopefully break free of the hardware limitations.. thats the thinking behind this
there are a number of applications that i've purchased that wont run after sideloading, due to developers not allowing it to be installed on anything higher than Big sur 11.3
i puchased imazing sometime back to sideload various ipad apps... but often they dont run.. due to developers restrictions that were applied after Big Sur 11.3
but again its to test things

with regards to maschine & native access.... this little test will indeed confirm whether or not i will run into issues..
who would believe the thinking... its better to downgrade LOL... we shall see haha

Yeah, that's what I am saying, by going the old OS route you will eventually miss out on an SW update, at some point... many updates... If you're OK with that then try downgrading, nothing to lose since it's a fresh computer. If it's just a test go for it, the results would interest me since I have my eye on an M1 iPad.

Oh, interesting... Do you know why?
As far as I can tell most devs do not enable the ability to install iPadOS apps on Apple Silicon, but I had no idea it could be done in big sur 11.3 in such cases, that's cool but worrying at the same time... As there was a promise of apps being compatible with both a long time ago. :S

thanks!
ill keep that in mind, if things dont work out with maschine 2.17.5 from native access

i suspect the reason why ipad apps dont install after Big Sur 11.2.3... is there were firmware updates which prevent this from occurring once upgrading... and/or possibly the m1 chip vs older chips in which the coding of some apps needed to be rewritten but had not been rewritten...
so in the case of the latter... ipad apps likely wouldnt work on a m1,
but the firmware update of OS beyond Big Sur 11.2.3, would've been implemented to return the control back to the developers for their apps... admittedly it doesnt make any sense
but thats how i see it

I've downgraded to 11.2.3
I can confirm various apps that I couldn't side load... have installed and are working...
aum , audio share , audio bus 3 , loopy pro , stage trax 3 , vban talkie , vban receptor , yam display.. just to name a few have all installed and run...
but testing of each app for full functionality is another issue... as this is going to take some time, as there could be issues with multi-out sound configuration re AUM... or sound maybe limited to a single stereo output, also testing whether sound can be passed from m1 audio applications to these iPad apps needs testing.
The current native access install of Maschine 2.17.4 works with expansions... so things on the Native instruments side are not presenting any problem...
main audio apps, re blackhole.. drivers for interface etc etc are needed to be installed to carry out further tests of iPad input/out & passthrough functionality...
the joys of installing :-s

Loopy pro has been an interesting application to test... with big Sur 11.2.3
and given that loopy pro has a lot of midi support... it definitely makes it worthwhile
you can drag and drop multiple samples from your external ssd's straight onto the application, and it will fill all the buttons sequentially... making the sample loops fit without making adjustments, which is really a fast process, this reason alone makes it worthwhile
the audio interface is recognised... virtual ports like blackhole as a aggregate are also recognised in the application and sending out to receive in a m1 application (audio multi-out channels works.. loopy--> M1 DAW ) which makes this app gel nicely
routing audio into loopy pro as far as using the audio-interface-outs or via blackhole... doesn't seem to work..
I haven't tested the mic input from the audio interface to gauge if this is working... but I don't see the point of doing this... as it is better to record directly into the DAW... whether Ableton/maschine or Reaper
with ableton - link builtin to loopy pro... it makes syncing a breeze with Maschine...
*** just note on my previous post re vban talkie , vban receptor , audio bus3..... these installed and ran.. but for some odd reason they have stopped working, and reinstalling them never changed anything don't know what happened there *shrugs
